OVERVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
• EFA – Education for all – It was a global movement
by UNESCO started in 2000
• Pakistan was also the part of this treaty
• But now Pakistan is lagging behind in achieving EFA
goal.
EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF PAKISTAN
• Education system of Pakistan is in bad condition.
• Allocation for education is inadequate
• Allocation amount is not spent for what it was meant because
of corruption.
• Private education is far reaching for the poor
• Students are just degree seekers.
• Universities fail to produce the planners & developers.
• According to Human Development Report Pakistan is at 136th
position in Education
• Over 64 years, 23 polices & action plans were made but
still waiting for a savior.
• Literacy rate fail to go beyond 50%.
PROBLEM IN EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
PROBLEMS IN EDUCATION SYSTEM
1. Gender discrimination
2. Lack for technical Education
3. Low allocation for fund
4. Inefficient Teachers
5. Poverty
6. Corruption
7. Social Imbalance
8. Mismanagement of system
9. Infrastructure Problems
10. Private School System
11. Lack of educational policies
12. Increase in population
13. Education as a business
1- GENDER DISCRIMINATION
• Gender discrimination leads to low participation of girls in
education.
• Because of this miss concept, the ration of boys to girls in
schools & colleges is 10:4
• To overcome this problem, Government invited private
schools to shoulder the responsibility of education.
• But it didn‘t work & continues creating gaps.
2- LACK OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION
• There is a craze for white collar jobs in people of Pakistan
but our general route of education can‘t cope with the
demand.
• There a lack of technical education & institutes in Pakistan.
• In China, Japan & Germany, technical education in essential
with general education.
• Through technical education, one can earn their living
without being burden on Government.
• Less technical education means lesser manpower for
industry.
3- SOCIAL IMBALANCE
• There is social imbalance in our society that elite
class students follow O & A levels curriculum & get
highly paid jobs.
• They have no awareness of their religion & culture.
• On the other hand, Urdu medium students have to
work in clerical & lower level positions.
• Students if religious madrassas unaware of the
worlds outside.
4- LOW ALLOCATION
OF FUNDS
• There is very low allocation of
funds for Education system in
Pakistan.
• According to a report, the funds
for educational sector never go
beyond than 15-20% of total
GDP.
• Most of the amount is not spent
for what it was meant for
because of corruption.
5- POVERTY
• There is so much poverty in the
tribal areas of Pakistan.
• It is also a curse for average
income group.
• Poor parents cannot afford
education of their children.
• Poor children have to go to
madrassas where education is
free.
6- INEFFICIENT TEACHERS
• In Pakistan, teaching is considered to be lowest among the
jobs.
• That's why, they get lesser incentives, lesser fringe benefits
& slow promotions.
• In Government sector, teachers even not well groomed &
equipped with knowledge & training.
7- MISMANANGMENT OF SYSTEM
• Schools in Pakistan are mismanaged & poorly managed.
• Teacher absenteeism, poor professional training, absurd
teaching methods are the main factors which are the
reasons for poor educational system.
• In schools, education is of second rate quality.
• Textbooks & curricula is outdated that do not cater the needs
of 21st century.
8- PRIVATE SCHOOL SYSTEMS
• In private school system, there is a trend to enroll more
students. Hence overburden the teaching staff.
• Private schools & academies are growing rapidly. That's way
people lack trust in public sector.
• The Elite class schools, there is heavy fees which is out of
the reach of general class.
9- LACK OF EDUCATIONAL POLICIES
• Almost 9 National Educational policies have been
made since 1947.
• But all the policies remain on paper work & lack
implementation.
• Government were not committed to fulfill their
promises.
• All the policies failed because the plans were
vicious & not ground reality based & also because
of weak planning & changing of political scenario.
10- INFRASTRUCTURE
PROBLEMS
• 40% of the educational
institutes don‘t have basic
facilities such as electricity,
guards, water, toilet and
boundary wall.
• Even worse they don‘t have
tables, chairs and black
boards.
11- EDUCATION AS
BUSINESS
• Education has been perused
by some of the people as an
industry.
• Their only intent is to make
money.
• They don‘t want to catch
with the move of success but
they try to be good
entrepreneurs.
12- INCREASE IN POPULATION
• Literacy in Pakistan has risen from 45 to 57 percent within
the span of 2008 to 2013, simultaneously primary enrollment
rates have also increased from 42 to 52 percent.
• The population explosion could not enable to catch the
targets.
• Causes of over population are:
1. Lack of education
2. Polygamy
3. Male birth desire
4. Early age marriages
13- Corruption
• Corruption causes the educational policies, plans and
projects to fail because of being the major contributing factor.
• There is no accountability and transparency in the system.
SOLUTIONS AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
Solutions and Recommendations
 Hiring should be made from amongst highly qualified
 The teachers should be paid according to the level of
education. The handsome salary must be paid to them.
 The number of teachers will have to enhanced.
 Primary education should be made compulsory and free.
 Government should strictly check the private institutions for
keeping a balance of standards.
 Students should be offered more scholarships and
Government should support the intelligent students.
 The leadership of Pakistan must be focused on uniform policy
of Education.
 Quality of education should be increased like textbooks, the
syllabus, the classroom environment.
 Technical education should be made the part of secondary
education
 Local government system is helpful in promoting education and
literacy in country.
 An effective monitoring system is needed in educational system
to tackle corruption.
 Counseling of parents is required, so that they can choose a
career for their child which is market friendly.
Conclusion
• Education is the tool that can surely bring positive change in
any society. It is the only mean to develop oneself physically,
socially and mentally as well. If this tool will not function
properly then the whole nation will collapse. So the need of
time is that everyone must get united to make our education
system one of the best in the world and to compose our
young generation in such a way that they can compete with
any nation in the field of education. We improve our
education system if we focused on the long term solutions of
those problems.
