2. DEFINITION
Pes Cavus is a foot with an abnormally high
longitudinal arch.
People who have this condition will place too
much weight and stress on the ball and heel of
the foot while standing or walking.

3. CONT.
with pes cavus includes clawing of the toes,
posterior hind foot deformity which is described
as an increase calcaneal angle,contracture
of the plantar fascia and cock-up deformity of
the great toe.This can increase weight bearing
for the metatarsal heads and associated
metatarsalgia and calluses.

Talar fractures
Burns of the foot
Cerebral palsy
Spinal cord tumors
Poliomyelitis

6. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
SIGNS
Ankle Instability
Metatarsalgia
Forefoot plantarflexion
Keratosis
Hind foot varus

7. SYMPTOMS
There may be corns and calluses under the bases of
first and fifth toes
Shoe may not fit very well because of the high arch
and the clawed toes
Some pains may be present in the arch area
because of the pressure that is under
The feet will feel stiffer and less mobile than a foot
that does not have a high arch
 An ankle sprain are more common in those with a
high arched foot

8. DIAGNOSIS
 Physical examination of the foot
 Through x-ray

9. TREATMENT
The use of foot orthosis or insoles to support and
protect the foot and relieve pressure areas
Different types of pads made from silicon can be
used to get the pressure off the painful areas
If cons and callus are present, they can be treated
by a podiatrist
Proper fitting of foot wear is important
 Surgical treatment can be initiated if the pains are
severe

10. PREVENTION
Seek a podiatrist when you notice any abnormal high
arch
