2. South African statesman Nelson Mandela
described his thoughts when he was
released after 27 years of imprisonment for
opposing apartheid: “As I walked out the
door toward the gate that would lead to my
freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my
bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in
prison.”
O estadista sul-africano Nelson Mandela
revelou seus pensamentos ao ser solto, após
27 anos na prisão por se opor ao apartheid:
“Quando passei pelo portão para a
liberdade, sabia que, se não deixasse o
rancor e o ódio para trás, ainda
permaneceria preso.”

3. We've all experienced the feeling of being
rejected or hurt by someone's words or
actions. It's natural to become hardened or
bitter or resentful, or to be overwhelmingly
discouraged or despondent, or to get angry
with the person, or to retaliate. The problem
is, because you're hurt, you often don't have a
very clear perspective on the situation.
When someone wrongs us, we must learn
to forgive and ask God to let His love fill our
heart. It's the only way to keep from being
hurt by bitterness, wrath, and anger.
Todos já nos sentimos rejeitados ou
magoados com as palavras ou ações dos
outros. É natural se endurecer e dar lugar ao
rancor, ao ressentimento, deixar-se dominar
pelo desânimo ou desesperança, ficar zangado
com a pessoa, ou revidar. O problema é que a
mágoa costuma diminuir nossas chances de ver
a situação com clareza.
Precisamos aprender a perdoar e a pedir a
Deus para encher nosso coração com amor,
quando alguém nos magoa. É a única maneira
de evitar ser prejudicado pela amargura, pela
ira e pela raiva.

4. No matter how hard it may be to
forgive, your situation can't improve until
you take that all-important step.
Forgiveness is letting go of resentment
and ridding yourself of negative thoughts.
All they do is make you miserable.
The path of forgiveness seems difficult
and bumpy at first, but the longer we
travel it, the smoother it gets.
Por mais difícil que perdoar possa
parecer, sua situação não melhorará até
você dar esse passo tão importante.
O perdão é abrir mão do ressentimento
e livrar-se dos pensamentos negativos.
Eles só servem para torná-lo terrivelmente
infeliz.
O caminho do perdão parece difícil no
início, mas quanto mais viajamos por essa
estrada, mais suave ela se torna.

5. What greater triumph is there than to
bring good out of bad? That’s the ultimate
way to conquer our hurts—not by
bitterness and thoughts of getting even,
but by allowing God to set us free from
that bitterness or other ill feelings and
bring about beautiful victories.
Que triunfo maior pode haver do que
transformar o mal em bem? É uma
maneira incomparável de conquistar
nossas mágoas — não pelo rancor ou com
pensamentos de vingança, mas deixando
Deus usar nossos infortúnios para nos
transformar em pessoas melhores.
