of success
The concept and learnings from
the World’s 1st Buusti group

Helsinki, Finland in 2012
In business, we think a
lot about improving and
being more efficient,
but less about what has
gone really well.
But what if we would
stop once in every
quartal to focus on
success, together with
some nice people?

So, Riitta and Karoliina summoned 6 others…
• Riitta, executive in a munincipality
• Karoliina, lean consultant
• Päivi, chief physician in medical
development
• Elina, customer experience
director
• Päivi, project director in a public
sector fund
• Outi, head of co-creation in a
think-tank
• Minna, associate professor,
researcher
• Eeva, online development director
… and we are now on our 6th year!
Buusti group on our
5th anniversary
meeting – a
weekend together in
Porvoo in August
2017

Key findings for me
• Talking about success on a regular basis has helped me to…
• … notice more and more successes
• … focus more on achievements and positives
• … learn how to analyze what went well and why
• … repeat success; also others’ (!)
• The meetings have become an extremely important channel for me to feel empowered and
energized. The meetings, the success stories and the people in the group are a true source
of inspiration to me.
• Everybody in the group prioritizes the meetings, no matter how busy they are. The support
of the group, and the confidential, personal, open atmosphere are truly something unique.

What’s the best part of Buusti?
Thoughts from other Buusti members
”The best thing is to be a part of a community that
helps me to focus on success, not just on development.
It helps me to make more of the successes and build on
them, which benefits both me and the people around
me.”
”Cumulativity! The successes I present today, are
much more sophisticated than to begin with.”
“For me, the best is the diversity, all the different angles
that listening to others’ successes brings. Even though I
think I’m surrounded by a versatile group of people
with all sorts of lives and able to recognize different
ways of thinking, it’s the true stopping to listen to
others and their meaningful moments in life that opens
up the depth that is included in ordinary, everyday life. I
have learnt so much from you all, both privately and
professionally – every time we meet, I learn from you
something I would not have thought of if I would only
listen to people who are my daily reference group.”
“Best of Buusti is that you take a moment to
reflect upon your own life. It gives me an
opportunity to learn in the middle of the
daily fuzz. But even better has been to
realize, how much it is possible to learn from
other people’s lives, different contexts and
decisions made by people with such
different personality. It’s like fast-forwarding
life experiences in a wider scale!”
”The best about Buusti is other people’s know-how
and views – I’ve grown as a person, employee and
employer because of you other Buusti members.”
”I’ve learnt the meaning of pure ”making things happen” attitude,
and courage. You cannot succeed, if you don’t do anything.
Successes are not some mythical things that just happen, but
natural end-result of analytical, open attitude combined with
action.”
”I have learnt that
success is a very relative
thing. What has in a
specific moment felt like
failure, has actually been
a seed for a much larger
success in the following
years.”

The concept
• Success can be personal or professional – anything and everything goes! Others can ask
questions, help analyze the anatomy of the success or just share the joy
• In terms of safe space, all the discussions in the group are considered confidential
• To make sure the effort for organizing the meeting is minimal for all, meetings take place in
public, for example in a restaurant cabinet
• To avoid discussing an organization’s matters, it’s best if people don’t come from the same
organization
5-8 people
once every 3 months
each has 10 minutes to share their success

Everybody deserves their own Buusti group.
So why not start one of your own?
All you need is some likeminded people, a quiet space,
and a bit of time every 3 months.
