4. What is Lumpy Skin
Disease?
• Lumpy Skin Disease is caused by the
lumpy Skin virus(LSD),a member of
the Capripoxvirus(CaPV) within the
Poxviridae Family- the some family
which cause MonkeyPox.
• Outbreaks are usually seasonal during
rains by mosquitos, insects,flies and
ticks.
• It is spreading out due to change in the
wind velocity and direction,as a part of
climate change.
5. • The morbidity rate in LSD is 10-20%
while the mortality rate is upto 5%
• Usually,high milk producing,thin
skin European cattle breeds more
susceptible to the disease compared
to indigenous breed.
• The incubation period in animals
varies between four and seven
days,but it may also last upto five
weeks.
6. Symptoms and control of disease
• Nodules that develops on the skin of cattle as a
result of the disease.
• Nasal discharge then eye discharge.Suffering by
high fever with low milk production.
• Lumps develops around 10-15mm in size on the
body.
• Due to lumps there is high pain in neck and head
area.
7. Measure taken on farm in case of
suspicion
If possible, separate the suspected case from rest of herd.
If possible, separate rest of animals from neighboring herd
by feeding them on the farm avoiding grazing.
Disinfectant yours hand, shoes and outfit using any common
disinfectant.
Disinfectant equipment and materials used in the affected
holdings.
