Fold mountains are mountain ranges formed by the collision of two continental tectonic plates at a convergent boundary, which causes the plates to squeeze upwards and fold the older and thicker sedimentary rock layers that were deposited in a geosyncline between the plates over time. Examples of fold mountains include the Himalayas between the Indian and Eurasian plates and the Alps between the African and Eurasian plates.
