Integrated Open Pit Coal Mine Planning
1. THINKING BEYOND THE OBVIOUS
INTEGRATED OPEN PIT
COAL MINE PLANNING
WORKSHOP
27 - 28 November 2012
Global Prospectus Training Centre,
366 Pretoria Avenue, Randburg
SETA Accreditation No. 2502
2. OVERVIEW
Effective openpit mine planning can be challenging in today’s environment of increased demand for productivity, competition,
commodity price fluctuations, rapid growth in overseas markets, equipment scarcity, and the critical shortage of skills in the
mining industry.
This course deals with the theoretical principles and practical methodologies associated with openpit coal mine planning. Openpit
mine planning is a process entailing elements of design, scheduling and evaluation. As part of the planning process a range of
issues have to be considered including sustainability, statutory requirements and community expectations, scheduling, equipment
selection, cost estimation and economic evaluation, pre-feasibility studies and risk analysis. This course will provide tools and
techniques to support effective medium to long-term decision-making, based on managing cost and risk
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
• Understand the importance of data verification and validation
• Elements effective of mine planning
• Effectively undertake systematic open pit mine planning
• Rehabilitation planning and design
• Evaluate the importance of haul road design and maintenance
• Employ Cost drivers in open pit planning
• Describe more specialised mining techniques
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
• Mine planning engineers • Mining Engineers
• Technical personnel • Planning Engineers
• Contract estimators • Design Engineers
• Mine surveyors • Rock Engineers
• Engineering Geologists • Drill and Blast Engineers
• Geotechnical Engineers • Mine Managers
