- I have been dancing for over 14 and over that time i have had injuries and difficult times in my life.\n
- It also strengthens the mind and body. the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process which furthers the emotional, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual" (Blatt, 1991).  This therapy combines rhythmic movement with self-expression to create a physiological response that is of the healing dimension.  Dance therapy acknowledges the connection of the mind and body and seeks to heal the one through the other. \n
- It started in the 1940’s. It was first recorded as being a kind of date therapy in the 19 century in the UK. Back then they had broken Dance therapy into two different things. Marian Chace is responsible for introducing the idea of DMT. She is considered to be the principal founder of what is now dance therapy in the united states. In 1942, through her work, dance was first introduced to western medicine. Chace was originally a dancer, choreographer, and performer. After opening her own dance school in Washington, D. C., Chace began to realize the effects dance and movement had on her students. She was soon asked to work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D. C. once psychiatrists too realized the benefits their patients were receiving from attending Chace’s dance classes. In 1966 Chace became the first president of the American Dance Therapy Association, an organization which she and several other DMT pioneers founded.\n
- It started to gain interest in american dance therapist in the 1970‘s and the 1980‘s. During this time, therapists began to experiment with the psychotherapeutic applications of dance and movement. As a result of the therapists experiments, DMT was then categorized as a form of psychotherapy. In 1999, Erwin-Grabner, Goodill, Hill and Von Neida describe anxiety as "an unpleasant emotional reaction that results from the perception or appraisal of a particular situation as threatening".  One of the main reasons that this treatment is so successful is its use of non-verbal communication and other forms of self-expression. In 1995, Mohacsy claims that at times, words are simply not adequate, a physical form of communication is necessary, especially when releasing feelings of anxiety.  He claims that dance therapy offers this type of communication through self-expressive actions and relaying emotions through imagery. \n
- A dance therapist is a person who heals you either in the emotional or physical way. In the picture it shows the patient is getting stretched out and this is the physical part of the dance therapy. \n
- For a physical dance therapist they normal look to see what is wrong with your body or do some test on you. Also the therapist will give you different exercises for you to heal and strengthen your body. A dance therapist will stretch the patient out and relax the tensions or sore spots in the patients body. For an emotional dance therapist he or she will figure out what the problem is and help you over come and coop with what your going through or went through. They help find your center and keep you stable and at ease. \n

- Dance therapy has a broad range of health benefits. It has been demonstrated to be clinically effective at improving body image, self-esteem, attentiveness, and communication skills. It can also reduce stress, fears and anxieties, as well as lessen feelings of isolation, body tension, chronic pain, and depression. In addition it can enhance the functioning of the body's circulatory and respiratory systems.\nDance therapy has also been shown to benefit adolescent and adult psychiatric patients, the learning disabled, the visually and hearing impaired, the mentally handicapped, and the elderly (especially those in nursing homes).\n\n
- Emotional dance therapy is the use of choreographed or improvised movements. This is when the therapist starts to just play some soft music and watches how you move and how you are interrupting the music. Then if you are with a group he or she will start to give different moves to relax the mind and the body.\n
- In short, it's a perfect fit for ReBuildingYou and satisfies the Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Joy elements of rehabilitation. Dance movement therapy strengthens the body/mind connection through body movements to improve both mental and physical well-being. As a form of expressive therapy, dance therapy is founded on the basis that movement and emotion are directly related.\n
