R. R. DONNELLEY & SONS, Warrenville, Illinois 2004 – 2017
Systems Architect, Marketing Automation (Digital Solutions Group, 2016-2017)
Senior Project Manager (Digital Media Management, 2011-2016)
Application Manager—Automation Solutions (PreMedia Technologies; 2006-2011)
Project Manager—Digital Asset Management (PreMedia Technologies; 2004-2006)
Managed a variety of application development teams and projects in the areas of automated document composition
and digital asset management. Worked with internal operations teams and external customers to capture requirements,
analyze existing customer processes, and design innovative and efficient new workflows. Managed software
development teams with both onshore and offshore resources. Managed the design, development, acceptance testing,
implementation, and client transition to these new systems.
Selected Project Highlights:
• Managed document automation projects for one of the largest credit card providers in the world, generating
highly regulated documents.
• Served as product manager (architecting and managing Agile delivery through all phases) of the Avenue
platform: large-scale automation of one-to-one direct mail campaigns, initially for one of the largest credit card
providers in the world. Avenue dynamically creates all components of each mailing package using business
logic, populating mailing specific rates, dates, and affinity groups, automating Adobe InDesign Server and
Quadient Inspire (formerly GMC PrintNet T) with a web front end to import and maintain data and review
and approve generated documents.
o Decreased client’s cycle times from 21 to 5 business days, with reduced mailing costs, with improved
quality and consistency of output. Now within one or two hours, the system generates documents and
proofs (that used to take one to two days) and mail merge programming (that used to take up to five
business days) with increased accuracy. From 2009-2017, the client mailed over 7.2 billion customer and
prospect envelopes with Avenue, using over 10,000 unique creatives—with 0 mail merge programming
errors.
o Onboarded additional credit card/banking client to Avenue.
o Extended the functionality of Avenue as an “item bank” for the creation, approval workflows, and
maintenance of standardized educational item questions, and their subsequent use in the assembly of
specific tests (backend automation generating print-ready PDFs of the finalized tests, as well as QTI
output for use in a third-party web-based testing application).
o Enhanced Avenue for a major international airline to generate printed menus and related flight attendant
instruction sheets for in-flight meal service.
• Delivered automated document generation using GMC Inspire with customer-provided data files. Examples
of output being generated include retail shelf tags, region-specific channel listings for cable providers, region-
specific order sheets for distributors of apparel with licensed college team logos, collection letters, etc.
• Delivered on time and within budget the DemandSelect application, a browser-based interface built on a
backend composition using custom development of XMPie (InDesign Server); users create customized
content while corporate branding and messaging are effectively controlled and dispersed to regional offices or
retailers.
