 Active Directory Monitoring (Windows)
Active Directory Monitoring on Windows platforms monitors the
health of critical aspects of the Windows Active Directory
  environment.
 Discovery
Discovery discovers and classifies devices on IP and IPX networks. It provides
both an ad hoc (on demand) and continuous (real-time) mode. It updates the
MDB with newly discovered and classified network objects
  Discovery Types –
  1) Classic Discovery
Provides on demand discovery that lets you decide which subnets you
want to discover and when. You can also configure Classic Discovery to run
at regular intervals, which can be used as an alternative to Continuous
Discovery and ensures that your discovered environment in the MDB is
always current. You can start a Classic Discovery from the Discovery
Classic GUI, the Management Command Center, the Unicenter Browser
     Interface, or the command line.
  2) Continuous Discovery
Provides event-driven and ongoing discovery. Continuous Discovery
employs a manager and agents that continuously scan your network in
real-time mode for new devices or changes in IP addressing of existing IP
     devices.
3) Common Discovery
Discovers IPv6 networks. The Common Discovery Import utility
discovers IPv6 networks using Common Discovery technology and
imports IPv6 addresses into WorldView, where they are integrated with
       existing networks.

 Notification Services
Notification Services provide the messaging infrastructure for Unicenter NSM
to deliver business information to remote personnel in a timely manner
through wireless and advanced protocols such as WCTP, SMTP, POP3, and so
  forth
Notification Services consist of two parts:
  1)Notification Services Client
Provides the necessary libraries and utilities to connect to the Notification
Services Server in order to send notifications and retrieve responses.
  2)Notification Services Server
A Windows Service that provides the necessary facilities to process client
notification requests, resolve recipient information, and send requests to
recipients using various protocols and providers.
 Alert Management System
The Alert Management System (AMS) organizes and tracks the most
important events in an enterprise or a logical segment of an enterprise so that
you can focus on and manage the highest severity IT events.

 Advanced Event Correlation
Advanced Event Correlation (AEC) integrates seamlessly with Event
Management to provide a powerful event correlation, root cause, and impact
analysis capability. When used with existing Unicenter NSM features, AEC
can increase the quality and reduce the quantity of the information reported
on the Event Console, which is used to automate certain operational tasks.

 Adaptive Configuration
The Adaptive Configuration service supports the challenging agent areas of
initial configuration, the ongoing configuration adjustment through the
  following ways –
  1) Detection of resources that should be monitored
2)Providing suitable thresholds for these resources
3)Automatic configuration of the agent with an optimum monitoring policy
 TrapManager
TrapManager is a component of Unicenter NSM that lets you perform
sophisticated trap database and trap filter file management. You can use
TrapManager to manage trap information and translation messages stored
in the Trap Database and trap filters stored in the trap filter file.
 Unicenter Browser Interface
The Unicenter Browser Interface provides a lightweight web-based Java
user interface through which you can administer Unicenter NSM
 Unicenter Configuration Manager
The Unicenter Configuration Manager allows for web-based configuration
and remote distribution of agent profiles. It is able to deliver configuration
data at scheduled times and to check existing configurations for Unicenter
NSM components such as agents, Advanced Event Correlation, and
  operator settings in Event Management.
 Unicenter Management Portal
Unicenter Management Portal provides a role-based, dynamic, personalized, and
consolidated view of the enterprise management information using the web
  portal
 Unicenter Software Development Kit (SDK)
The Unicenter Software Development Kit (SDK) provides the means to
programmatically interface with the major components of Unicenter NSM. It lets
you create personalized visualizations and policies and integrating with your
  site-specific data, applications, and configurations
 Web Reports and Dashboards
Web reports let you create inventory, status, and performance reports for your
managed resources. Dashboards present the detailed state of your managed
resources in a graphic manner, which are accessible through the Unicenter MCC,
Unicenter MP, and the CA web server.
 Management Database
Unicenter NSM components are integrated using a management database (the CA
MDB). The MDB provides a single integrated database schema (tables, columns,
views) for the management data stored by all CA products. The schema includes
the database objects used by Unicenter NSM, its components, and options. Use of
the MDB in Unicenter NSM enables integration of Unicenter NSM and other CA
products for managing your IT infrastructure.
 Implementation Layers –
For implementation purposes, Unicenter NSM is implemented in a
distributed manner and is arranged into four layers:
  1)Visualization
  2)MDB/Enterprise - Database Level
  3)Managers
  4)Monitoring Technology

 Visualization
The visualization layer represents user access to the various GUIs and
  management points. This includes:
  1)Management Command Center
2)WorldView (Maps, Class and Object Browsers, Viewers, Wizards)
3)Unicenter Browser Interface (Remote and Web-based Viewer)

  4)Unicenter Management Portal
5)Unicenter Remote Monitoring (Administrative Interface)
 6) Web Reports and Dashboards
 7) Unicenter Configuration Manager
 8) Classic Enterprise Management

 MDB
The MDB is a single database containing common tables and multiple product-
specific tables that were previously contained in separate product databases
(for example, the Unicenter NSM WorldView Common Object Repository).
Based on a central management database, the MDB serves as the enterprise
database integrating all CA products. As the primary reference point, the MDB
lets you collect asset resource information from a centralized entity, or
database, eliminating costly access on the network.
From a Unicenter NSM perspective, all WorldView data is now stored in the
MDB (formerly known as the Common Object Repository) and is referenced as
the MDB. In case of multiple MDB’s Repository Bridge is used to synchronize
 WorldView data between MDB’s .
 Managers
The manager layer requires planning. It is possible to have multiple layers of
managers to scale to your network and requirements. The most common
  managers in Unicenter NSM follow:
  1)WorldView
  2)DSM
  3)Continuous Discovery
  4)Event
  5)Alert
  6)Job Status

 Monitoring Technology
CA provides two methods for monitoring your network resources:
 1)Agent Technology and
 2)Remote monitoring (RM).
