QUESTION 6: WHAT HAVE YOU
LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

Camera - Canon 70D
To film our media product, we used my own camera the Canon 70D as the quality and
frame rate was better than the cameras the school could offer. This immediately boosted
our films quality as the picture quality and overall flow fo the production would be better.
Because this was my own camera, it meant that I already knew a lot about the camera
and therefore was able to guide Oscar on how to get the right lighting and setting custom
white balance etc. If we had not had access to this camera the quality of the film would
have been worsened as this particular camera is very good at capturing video and deals
well with low light situations which much of our film was because we were in a dark
house for most of the shots.
Editing Software - Premiere Pro
This year we had the opportunity to use Premiere Pro as our editing software. This made
a change from all the previous years where we had used iMovie. This was a good thing
as Premiere Pro was a more professional editing software and it allowed us to have
more control over our final product as there was more things that we could change than
in iMovie. It took some getting used to at the beginning because I had never used it
before but after the first few days of learning I had the hang of it and from then on it was
very easy and effective to use.
Pre Production - CeltX
Before we went out to film our production, we had to script it so that the
actors knew what they were doing. This software allowed us to script
things very easily and already had the format already laid out for us so
that people like us, who had never written a script before, still had a
professional looking script at the end of it.
Developed Skills - Pre Production
Over the course of this media production, my skills in all areas have
greatly increased. They have even increased greatly since we did the first
preliminary task. Before this production I didn't know how to write a script
or use the software properly, I would have probably gotten a picture up
and tried to copy the format onto Microsoft Word, but know I know what
software to use and how to use it. Over the course of this year, I have also
developed my pre-production skills in the sense that I now know all the
proper procedures to follow before shooting a film. I know what
permission forms I need signed including actors and site hire, I know how
to fill out the risk assessment and all the safety procedures to follow.
Developed Skills - Production
In terms of the actual production I am now lighting trained so I know how to
operate a set of lights safely and use them effectively on a set. I also know
how to use a number of pieces of equipment that increase the quality level of
a production that I didn't know how to use beforehand. These include a
Steady - cam, Dolly, Monopod and a boom microphone.
Developed Skills - Post Production
Before this course, I had never used editing software and before this
Production, I had never used Premiere Pro before. In this sense I have largely
developed my skills in editing as I could now comfortably edit a short film with
either of these softwares. They are both now very easy for me to use and I am
confident with both of them.
