The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program
(MBSYEP) is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the
Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides
District youth ages 14 to 24 with enriching and constructive
summer work experiences through subsidized placements in
the private and government sectors. Mayor Bowser signed the
Mayor's Order 2015-037 on January 14, 2015 to rename the
program the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment
Program in honor of former Mayor & MBSYEP founder Marion
Barry.

is a creative, innovative, and groundbreaking project
designed to cultivate a workforce that is attractive to
corporations in the District of Columbia through the art of
FASHION (which will encompass the Media/TV &
Communications, Marketing, IT fields). In addition to
reflective thinking, preparation & readiness skills,
participants will develop entrepreneurial skills such as
creative thinking, connected learning, and
communication skills. It is through this platform that
participants develop lifestyle skills that will benefit them in
reaching goals and igniting dreams for an overall
productive life, while increasing the chances of
employment
