classmates, work-related peers,
church-mates.
•In the Philippines, primary group
affiliation is based on kinship ties.
•Filipinos recognized bilineal
kinship which traces lineage from
both parents.

5. SECONDARY GROUPS__
•Larger, less intimate, and more
specialized groups. Where
members engage in impersonal
and objective-oriented
relationship for a limited time.
•Membership of this group is
less intrinsic and more
instrumental.

6. SECONDARY GROUPS__
• Examples:
1. Employees treat their colleagues as
secondary groups since they need to
cooperate with one another to
achieve certain goals in the
workplace.
2. Professional relationship between
lawyers and clients, corporation and
hundreds of employees, stockholders,
and shareholders.

individuals to stay
