2. Introduction
• A former regional production manager with Norampac, Gerald
Mayfield possesses more than four decades of experience in the
corrugated manufacturing industry. Outside of his professional
obligations, Gerald Mayfield is an animal enthusiast and the owner
of a Yorkshire terrier that he adopted from United Yorkie Rescue
(UYR). While UYR operates with the goal of finding forever homes
for all of the Yorkshire terriers that enter its doors, the organization
sometimes takes in dogs that are not eligible for adoption due to
severe medical conditions. For these dogs, UYR offers the Forever
Ours program.
Focused on helping abandoned or stray Yorkshire terriers and
Yorkie mixes with serious medical conditions, the Forever Ours
program places dogs in permanent foster homes, where they receive
love and medical care until the end of their lives.
3. Forever Ours Program
• UYR covers the dogs’ medical expenses, while foster parents are
responsible for providing physical care, food, and a comforting
environment. Additionally, the program offers members of the
public the opportunity to help care for these dogs by sponsoring one
or more of the dogs in a Forever Ours home. Sponsors help to cover
medical expenses and supply foster families with dog care supplies.
Placement in the Forever Ours program is determined by the UYR
Board of Directors in consultation with the rescued dog’s foster
family and veterinarian. The organization currently cares for 10
Yorkie and Yorkie mixes through the Forever Ours program and
delivers regular updates on the status of each one through its
website. For more information about the Forever Ours program or
to sponsor a dog in its care, visit United Yorkie Rescue at
