 Writers’ answers questions of how and
why.

 1st Paragraph – Introduction
 2nd – 4th Paragraph – Body (First, In
addition, Finally)
 MI - Main Idea sentence
 D – Details, use text evidence to
prove your point
 Conclusion
(I+MID+C)
 The beginning or the
introduction needs to present the

the main topic.
 You should never introduce some new
information or ideas in the conclusion.
Its main purpose round off your
informative essay by summing up.
Parts of an Informative Writing

Example of a persuasive
paragraph
Argumentative
Writing
 This is the type of essay where you confirm
that your opinion, theory or hypothesis
about an issue is correct or more reliable
than those of others.
 You argue for your opinion as opposed to
others rather than directly trying to
persuade someone to adopt your point of
view.
Argumentative
Writing
 The main argument presented is
elaborated and explained through
the presentation of its pros (in favor
of) and cons (against) of your
position in an issue.
I-C/T+B-PCR+C
 Introduction – (Claim/Thesis statement)
 A statement of opinion / topic of the argument
 Body: Evidence/Pros
 Proof of facts that support your argument
 Body: Counter argument/Cons
 An argument that the reader would make if
they disagreed with your claim
 Body: Rebuttal/Refutation
 Your response to your counter argument
 Conclusion
 A strong restatement of the original claim
Don’t Forget
 Add an interesting question or an anecdote for the
introduction.
 You can also use appropriate figures of speech to
strengthen your appeal.
 Use reasons and examples as support, use factual
and opinion statements, summarize your reasons,
 Use the last sentence to further persuade your
readers to agree with you, or invite your readers to
action and lastly, revise and polish your work.
Techniques in Argumentative
writing
 Clearly stating the writer's position and thesis
statement
 Anticipating and addressing potential
counterarguments
 Using logical reasoning and evidence to support
the writer's position
 Refuting counterarguments using evidence and
logic
 Using a strong and confident tone to convey
conviction in the writer's position
Example of an argumentative paragraph
School uniforms have been a controversial topic for
decades. While some argue that they promote equality
and a sense of community, others argue that they stifle
individuality and expression. However, the benefits of
school uniforms far outweigh the negatives. By requiring
students to wear uniforms, schools can eliminate the
distraction of fashion and promote a more focused
learning environment. Additionally, uniforms can reduce
bullying and improve school safety by making it easier to
identify outsiders on campus. Ultimately, the decision to
require school uniforms should be based on what is best
for the students and the learning environment.
