Which Best Skid Steer Brush Mower Is Best For You? One of the most popular skid steer attachments has
to be the skid steer brush mower. At first most skid steer mowers may look alike but with additional
research you will quickly see that many major differences exist that affect their mowing performance. Which
mower is best for you depends upon the number of features you want as well as your intended use. If you
plan on using your skid steer mower for clearing areas that have thick heavy grass, underbrush and saplings
it's important to make sure it will take the punishment.
Since the mower deck is the basis for the entire mower that is where I look first to make sure it is well
reinforced. I want to see an excellent support structure around the hydraulic motor or gear box that sits right
above the blades. Other areas that need reinforcement are the corners as well as a good push bar in front to
knock down trees and other debris so the mower can cut them.
The motor should be a direct drive hydraulic motor and should be mounted to heavy gauge plate steel that
sits on top of the mower deck. Since hard objects such as rocks are common this reinforced steel plating as well as the other support reinforcements will keep
the integrity of your mowing mechanism intact. By eliminating a gear box there are simply fewer moving parts to wear out or become damaged by impact. This is
especially true when there are proper hydraulic release valves and braking systems for when the mower is stressed beyond it's capacity.
The flywheel is another piece of the puzzle that you must consider, especially if you plan on encountering adverse conditions once in awhile. A heavy flywheel
allows you to maintain speed through tough spots because it carries greater momentum. If you have to slow down or stop when you get in heavy conditions it
may be caused by a lack of hydraulic pressure or a light flywheel. Combining the heavier flywheel with properly designed blades can increase cutting efficiency
dramatically. I was recently introduced to a 3 blade design that incorporates a 270lb flywheel, these are updraft blades and do an incredible job of cutting. I've
heard the 3 blade design allows you to cover 30% more ground because of the increased surface area of the blades, combine this with updraft blades and you've
got the ultimate cutting machine!

What do I use to cut a field of tall grass and brush down enough to mow it?
I want to mow the field at my home, but it is almost as tall as I am. I have a ride on lawn mower but I still have to cut it all down enough to allow the mower to navigate. I’ve
tried a weed eater but it isnt strong enough to cut down the brush. I know that there are machine’s that I can rent that will do what I want but I dont know what they are, or how
to use them.

Sounds like you need a brush cutter. A motorized revolving blade that spins at very high speed and cuts pretty much anything that gets in it’s path (except metal).
Basically it’s a long pole with a motor at one end and the blade at the other – they’re 6 to 8 feet long which means when held properly, they’re too long to cut your feet off
with. They take a bit of getting used to but once you’ve got the hang of it you’ll be fine.
Get the people at the hire center to show you how to adjust the fittings (it either attaches to a harness or hangs from a strap across your shoulders). Also get them to
demonstrate the cutting motion. For high brush like yours you need to sweep the blade from side to side, starting high then lowering towards the ground.
Watch out for any small stones – the blades rotate at about 12,000 times a minute, if they hit a small stone it will fly off like a bullet (wear strong boots). Depending what
you’re cutting there could be stuff flying in all directions so a safety helmet with full face shield is a good idea as are ear defenders because they’re noisy things (a buzz-
saw helmet will protect your face, ears and head).
Some brush cutters are badly designed in that the motor is too close to your body, once it’s been running a while the casing can get very hot so a thick jacket is also a
good idea. Thick trousers as well to protect your legs from flying debris.

Alternative to a brush mower?
The grass around my home has gotten out of control over this summer. Between a lack of time and just simply motivation it hasn’t gotten mowed and now it’s a big problem.
Seeing larger spiders then before so I know things have gotten bad. Pretty much I need something that can handle an acre of land. Well not the entire acre but a large part of
it. Area behind house, around and on the septic mound as well. After looking around it seems a brush mower is really what I need to tackle this problem (grass and weeds

3. have gotten several feet high in some areas and have leaned over) however they are pretty expensive.
I’m wondering if there are alternatives to them. Something perhaps below the level of a brush mower but stronger then a normal lawn mower that could get the job done?
Any suggestions on what could do the job? Any particular specs I should be looking out for? Brand?
I know it’s getting close to winter and if I can’t find anything I figured I could wait until it’s near freezing and try to do something then. However would like to tackle this before
then.

is it just grass and not woody scrub?
if its just grass your own rotary mower will do the job takes longer and you will have to work hard for not cutting it regular.
just pick a day the grass is dry raise the deck and open the discharge flap and get going it will cut it.
if you have woody scrub a axe or mattock on them then the mower can do it.
you will learn the way to cut very long grass tilt the mower back as you approach and lower on the grass once chewing it up no trouble,
If have a weed whacker can use that and will work very good as well.
the brush mower could be hired and do the job.
But use your own first change oil clean air filter, new spark plug, new blades and get started

Need blade for Troy-Bilt sickle mower,for cutting brush, MD# 34063, Ser.# 340631100139?
I own the mower the blade is broken and I can’t seem to find a 42″ blade for it.

RHINO brush hog se4 mower….?
What do they mean in owners manual when they say 540 recommended rpm?? If you are in high grass can u raise it to a higher RPM or will it damage it??

540 is normal operating range. yes ,no. it would not allow damage from high rev. by the governor

Tractor attachment: Brush Hog vs. Flail Mower?
For 5+ acres of land with nothing but grass and weeds (no brush), which is better, a brush hog or flail mower? I hear the flail mower does a better job of mulching and gives
a cleaner cut.
Any information will be appreciated.
Keeping hay is not a factor because we will probably just let the cut grass desintegrate naturally.

simplicity legacy xl power to run brush mower?
does the legacy xl have the power to run a brush mower from the pto. i cant find any info on this topic. i want to mow higher grass and light brush but dont want to pay for a
bigger tractor.

If you have a 27 horse like I have found some have, then probably. The thing isn’t gonna cut large saplings but grass should be fine. Shave it off a little at a time, don’t go
head first in the middle.

Really unruly lawn with lots of tough thin leave weeds with tufts of bunched up roots? Lawn mower or brush?
cutter? Relay not an option at the moment.

Has anyone ever had the crating come apart while hauling a new dr field and brush mower on a utility trailer?
I ordered a new one, picked it up at the trucking terminal it was shipped to. The company I purchased it from said it would be fine to haul it on a open utility trailer in their
crate> The brush mower was sitting on a pallet with the caragated box sitting over it , with two straps securing it to the pallet.looked good , but within 8-10 miles down the
road the crating started tearing and the top started coming off. I had to stop and remove the top of the crate to keep it from blowing into someone car. the mower deck was
mounted on wooden boards which had been attached to the side off the pallet with staples and cardboard, the staples and cardbord had come loose letting the deck which
is sitting about 1.5 feet above the pallet lean over which could have resulted in the deck falling off into incoming traffic. So I had to lift the heavy deck of the boards and
strained my back and causing disc injury.If their crating had not come apart i would not be hurt. Buyer beware!
