2. If all of the world´s cultural heritage was
contained in a time capsule, what would you
include to demonstrate the legacy of your
country?
3. Italy’s
cultural
heritage
is
strong
and
it
can
be
found
all
over
the
country’s
geographical
territory.
Let’s
have
a
look
at
the
most
representative
areas
and
cities.

11. For Italians, food isn’t just food, it is a way to
bring people together, a way to have a break
from the busy everyday routine, a way for
people to share their own culture. Food is part
of the Italian culture, and its value must be
transmitted to future generations.
12. SOCCER
Soccer

the
Italian
word)

the
most

Italy.

the

is
part

the

13. WORKS
OF
ART
The
Last
Judgement,
Michelangelo
(1535-‐1541)
Amore
e
Psiche,
Canova
(1793)
Spatial
Concept,
Waiting,
Lucio
Fontana
(1964)
Vitruvian
Man,
Leonardo
Da
Vinci
(1490)
David,
Michelangelo
(1501-‐
1504)
Primavera,
Sandro Botticelli
(1482)
14. These works of art belong to various periods of
history and artistic movements. I chose these six
works because they all convey very different
messages and ideas of aesthetics. Some of them,
like Michelangelo’s David, aim at representing
human anatomy and physicality, they research
perfection in the details and in the complexity of
the work. Others, such as the Final Judgment or
the Primavera,haveallegorical meanings.
16. These five writers and their works represent different moments of
the history of the Italian literature. They all bring different messages
and experiences, and this is why I believe their works are necessary
for future generations.
Dante wrote “La Divina Commedia” (1308-‐1320), one of the
greatest works of world literature and a visionary poem.
Ungaretti was a modernist poet and a leading representative of the
World War I literature and “hermeticism”.
Pirandello, awarded the 1934 Nobel Prize in Literature, had the
ability to turn psychological analysis into literature
Montale, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975, was a poet,
an editor, and one of the most important sensibilities of the time.
Saviano is a contemporary journalist, writer, and author of the
international bestseller Gomorra (2006); he uses literature to reveal
the truth about Italian organized crime and to describe the
economicreality of the territory.
17. MONUMENTSMilan
Cathedral
(1386-‐1965)
Trevi Fountain,
Rome (1732-‐1762)
Valley
of
the
Temples,
Agrigento
(480
b.C.)
St.
Mark’s
Square
and
Basilica
(978-‐1092)
Colosseum,
Rome (72
d.C.) Florence
Cathedral
(1296-‐1436)
18. All the monuments above reflect the
magnificence and the prosperity of the country in
the respective historical contexts in which they
were created. Italy is the motherland of beauty
and art, and these monuments represent the
highest form of harmony, in accordance with the
time frame in which they were designed and built.
20. Music is a key element of the Italian culture, it is and it has
always been a strong presence in people’s life. The genres
I believe that perfectly represent the soul of the Italian
music are the lyric opera, such as the operas composed by
Giuseppe Verdi or Giacomo Puccini; and the popular-‐
melodic music, that consists of all those songs that,
without music, could be also read as poems, given their
deeper meaning and the simplicity of the verses. The
figure of Pavarotti, instead, is very important because he
was a lyric singer who crossed over into popular music,
becoming one of the most successful tenors of all time.
22. In Italy, fashion does not limit itself to trends or
dresses, it has always been a way to communicate,
to convey a deeper and hidden message.
«Now, I'm not saying I'm fashionable, but there are
sociological interests that matter to me, things that
are theoretical, political, intellectual and also
concerned with vanity and beauty that we all think
about but that I try to mix up and translate into
fashion.» -‐ Miuccia Prada
23. Now the most important elements of Italy’s cultural
heritage are contained in the time capsule, ready to be
discoveredand to surprise future generations.
«You
may
have
the
universe
if
I
may
have
Italy.»
-‐ Giuseppe
Verdi
