2. What is Cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is people using technologies like
the internet or cell phones to hurt other
people’s feelings, trash their reputation, and
ruin their friendship with others by posting
harmful, hurtful and/or untrue information.
3. Examples of Cyberbullying
• Flaming – Angry online messages from one person to another
using harsh language.
• Harassment – Sending rude and hurtful messages several
times online.
• Denigration – Hurting someone’s image or making fun of
them online by posting rumors about them or even berating
them.
• Cyberstalking – Sending rude and hurtful messages several
times online that can create intimidation and/or fear.
4. Examples of Cyberbullying
• Outing – Posting someone’s personal or embarrassing
information or photos online.
• Trickery – Convincing or fooling someone into sharing
personal information and posting it online.
• Exclusion – Rejecting and preventing someone from
participating in an online group in a malicious manner.
• Impersonation – Logging into someone else’s account and
sening out messages that could embarrass them.
5. Preventing Cyberbullying
• DON’T share secrets or photos online that might embarrass
you.
• Keep your online passwords safe. DON’T share them with
anyone EXCEPT your parents.
• DON’T respond to emails or messages that are mean to you.
• If someone sends you a message that is mean or hurtful to
you or others, DON’T respond.
• If you or a friend are being cyberbullied, TELL a teacher or a
parent immediately.

Mike and James were in the same baseball team and James
pretended to be Mike’s friend. James asked Mike a lot of personal
questions. Mike confided in him thinking James would never
betray him because they were friends. That evening, James
posted Mike’s personal information online to embarrass Mike.
