A widow was left penniless after her husband died, with no money, food, or means of support. Everything in her home was empty. In her desperate situation, she turned to God for help. Though she had experienced great emptiness, when she turned to God, He filled her life with blessings. The passage encourages readers who feel empty in their lives to turn to God as well, who can fill them with peace and joy.
2. Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7. Have you ever been shocked to find that your car is running on “empty” and you have no idea how far the next fuel station is? Or more so is your life empty?
3. In our text, a man died and left his wife penniless. She had no husband, no money, no food, no income, and no government aid to apply to, in other words she had no hope for the future.
4. Every pot in the house was empty, every vessel empty, every jar empty, and every cupboard empty, every pocket and purse was found empty. In her emptiness, she turned to God.
5. She had a lot of emptiness in her life. But, when she turned to God He filled her life with blessing.
6. Let us make a spiritual application from this story: If you are not experiencing God’s presence in your life, it may be that you are “empty”!
