There are a lot of people that have heard about hydroponic seed germination, but
unlike the cloning that takes place through the simply act of cutting a piece of a plant
off, many people feel that the seed germination is simply too complex.
If you have done a successful job of cloning plants, through the
cutting of one plant, then you might want to eventually try the hydroponic seed germination process.
The reason for this is that many people have found, or at least feel that with the hydroponic seed
germination, that better plants are produced.
This is something that you may just have to try out for yourself. The more you experiment, the easier it will
be for you to come to your own conclusion.
One thing that you have to remember from the very
start is that you have to select only the best possible seeds.
If the seeds do not look healthy or they come from a plant that looks anything but healthy, then there is a
very good chance that any plant that comes from that seed will be just as bad.
Also, it is very important that you are handling the seeds with care during the hydroponic seed germination
process.
2. If you are just the slightest bit too rough, you could very well find that the seed breaks open or that you
have ripped off the beginning roots and then the entire process is ruined.
There are also a few basics that you have to keep in mind.
The seed but be alive and active.
Yes, there is such a thing as dead seeds.
Also, some seeds will go dormant.
In order for these seeds to be a proper part of the hydroponic seed germination process, they have
to be active.
In order for this to happen, the seeds might have to reach a particular temperature.
Also, it is vitally important that there is just the right amount of oxygen and moisture present.
For some seeds, there even needs to be a certain amount of darkness as well.
As you are probably starting to realize, hydroponic seed germination for one type of seed may be a
little different from the hydroponic seed germination for another type of seed.
So, just what is germination? Basically, whenever a seed is
first beginning to grow, it is germinating.
If you want to make sure that you are giving your seeds the best chance possible during the hydroponic
seed germination stage, then you are going to want to make sure that you are selecting the right growing
medium.
Sure, you could use soil, but that really would not be hydroponic because the roots would not have the
maximum amount of exposure to the nutrients from the light and water. They would grow, but not in the
same fashion.
As you do your research on hydroponic seed germination, you
will find that there are going to be some growing media options that are better than others for the particular
kind of seeds that you want to germinate.
Some examples of growing media you could use would be Oasis, gravel, peat moss, rock wool,
vermiculite, composted bark, expanded clay, pumice, perlite and sand.
Of course, your options do not stop there.
Keep in mind that some of the most successful hydroponic seed germination growers are people who are
not afraid to try new things and that will experiment with all sorts of different growing mediums.
3. Another thing that you are going to have to learn about is that of the lighting requirements for the
hydroponic seed germination process.
There is the option of natural light and artificial light.
For the obvious reasons, natural light is better.
All you would have to do is to place your hydroponic seed germination system about one foot away
from a nice sunny window.
When the sun drops, you want to make sure that you are not leaving the lights on in that room all
night.
Believe it or not, your plants really do need to rest at least four hours each night.
If the plants that are starting to grow do not look as though they are growing well enough, you might
have to move them to a location with more sun.
During the winter months, when the days are shorter and much
darker, you might not have any other option than to make use of artificial light for your hydroponic seed
germination.
Again, you are going to want to make sure that your seeds or plants are getting the right amount of light,
while getting the right amount of rest each night as well.
As you can see, while there are some specific things that
you need to keep in mind for hydroponic seed germination, this is a process that you can easily do on your
own.
You will be impressed with your newfound skills and you will be ready to start doing more and more
hydroponic seed germination in order to get all of the healthy plants you could ever want!
