Distribution
Working with a £3.5million budget, The Descent was released in 2005/06 in
cinemas within the UK and USA it made a total amount of $57,051,053. From the
publicity it was given at its time you could go anywhere online or around town
and see something about the film. After being released in all the cinemas it was
being shown in, the sales went to a pause until later in the year of 2006 when it
was released on DVD on December 26th, that’s when the money started to come
back for the film after it’s big income from the cinema. Around that time it cost
around £5 to go and see films in the Cinema, but now at adult price it costs just
over £8, meaning that if this film was to be released around this time they could
have gotten a lot more money than they did. Another point to make is that people
could spend around £15 to get a season pass, being able to then go and see any
film for free within that month of renewal.

Above are the weekly sales for the film on DVD for the first 3 weeks, in total for
the time is was popular and out there it made a total of $22,652,603 along with
the $57 million from the cinema it made a total of around $79 million in just
under 2 years of being available at the cinema and on DVD. A new DVD costs
around £10, meaning that this film did get quite a lot for it’s sales when released
on DVD, however when a DVD has been around for arounda year or two, or in
this case 8 years the price has turned very low. Looking on amazing the film is
around £4.5 when purchased from amazon brand new; however if it is new from
another distributer it is £1.11, or if used it can be as low as 18P-1P.
