My thoughts on training
1. MY THOUGHTS ON TRAINING – GUY JASZEWSKI
MUST DO’S
Complete the lesson, answer questions, address issues and concerns from participants and work with participants who join the
virtual training session late.
Prepare the class up-front what I will be teaching and when breaks will take place. Any documents need to be downloaded,
ensure everyone has access to the files before the main event begins be it virtual or instructor-led.
Do your very best to ensure they understood you and the content. Confirm often whether they understood. Make sure your
organization’s approved documentation is covered in full.
What have I found to work well?
Challenge your trainees BUT be Respectful
Be patient and accepting and LISTEN
Be interesting and entertaining, keep them Engaged
Be Passionate about your organizations products and services
Be knowledgeable, work to be a SME
Be Inspiring & stay Positive
Offer active participation – but keep control of time – Also used when Web-training
Be well-planned – Clear Objectives / Timed Training Session / Room for flexibility if necessary
Know your audience if possible – try to speak to their level of technology as an example
Identify the “types” of Users – This lets you now if you need to tailor your questions. Example: Admins, vs Users
Training delivery practices methods
Web-based / Virtual -
* Show my face to make it more personal * Ask about my participants’ real-time experiences
* Use smaller groups, some people like that * Am careful that topics often take longer than anticipated
* Clearly state and review objectives * Be weary of the Q&A panel and work to get those addressed
* Be aware of you on-camera presence * Provide material they can keep
* Try to Use PowerPoint to provide consistency * Try to utilize audio options
* Try to build an assessment to score your training (Example: Survey Monkey)
Instructor-Led
* Can be easier to share ideas * Role-playing - use depending on the subject matter
* Easier team building & problem solving * Better environment to maintain focus
* Harder to schedule and get when you need * Hand out survey’s on your training
* Be aware of your physical presence * More set up time required in training rooms usually
What do I like to ask?
What are you seeing in the field? What have you observed?
What is your #1 challenge working in the industry?
What has been your most positive experience with our products? What has been somewhat problematic?
What can we do to make it better?
What else would you like to be trained on?
