1. Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural
resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently
consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn
how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the
harm that we have inflicted on the planet.
Goal 12 in action
2. According to latest projections, the global population
could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in
2050. The equivalent of almost three planets could be
required to provide the natural resources needed to
sustain current lifestyles.

16. Sustainable Fashion
• The environmental and social implications
of fashion production and disposal, make it
of high relevance to integrate the targets of
the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into
this industry, to make it fully sustainable
and positive for people and the ecosystem.
• The aim of the commitment, is to integrate
the UN SDGs in this industry, to tackle the
environmental and social issues related to
clothing production and consumption:
Implementation of sustainable design
strategies, promoting the use of sustainable
technologies and appropriate resource
management throughout the textile supply
chain, proposing new business models and
engaging with consumers for better
consumption habits.
17. • Create Consumer Awareness by offering Free Webinar during the national campaign

Best Practices Example
18. • Implement product portfolio analysis tools to understand environmental and social footprint of
products within lifestyles as well as production. Innovation must align products and applications to
appropriately address sustainability megatrends.
• Develop innovative business models such as moving from selling products to selling services, to
retain ownership of the products and help close the materials loop.
• Enable sustainable consumption by developing innovative solutions can reduce energy need in
usage and educate consumers about these benefits.
• Reduce manufacturing impacts by substituting virgin raw materials in products with post-
consumer materials through recycling and upcycling.
• Apply modular design, so products’ constituent parts will be easily separated and either re-used
without further processing, or easily recycled near the point of disposal.
• Significantly reduce waste and ensure that any unavoidable waste is utilized to the fullest degree
(e.g. organic waste as fuel or fertilizer).
• The examples are non-exhaustive and some may be more relevant to certain industries than to
others.
