1) A student designed two solar ovens using different materials and recorded their effectiveness by measuring temperature changes over time when placed in the sun and shade. 2) The first design used white foam and cloth and achieved a maximum temperature of 73.4°C. The second design used sand and foam but only reached a maximum of 37.4°C. 3) Based on the temperature measurements and impact scores of the materials, the first design performed better with a total score of 15 points compared to -11 points for the second design. 19. Reflection
Our improved design did not work well because
the sand did was not a good insulator. The
materials we changed were cloth because we
thought the sand would absorb the sunlight. The
material sand was a poor insulator because it did
not hold enough heat because our temperature
decreased.
If we could improve again, we would go back with
our first design because they were good insulators.
We could also place our shredded materials
differently so that the heat does not go out the
holes.
