Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Journey of the cotton fibers.1
1. Cotton seeds mature in seven months after they were
planted. Once they are grown, harvest can be done either
by hand or by machine. While machine harvest has some
economical advantages, the cotton quality is reduced as all
cotton heads are harvested at the same time and immature
cotton heads are also harvested. Fiber length is the most
considered parameter in cotton quality and longer the
fibres, better the quality of the yarn and the fabric.
During the machine harvest both cotton
and bolls are picked. Boll is not usable for
yarn production, so cotton fibers and bolls
are separated in grinning process and
then spun into cotton yarn.
There are two kinds of widely used
spinning methods which are namely ring
spinning and open-end spinning.
Cotton yarn is used for knitting the
fabric. There are four kinds of knitted
fabric which are widely used in
workwear and printwear products.
Single Jersey, fleece, pique and rib.

Cotton fibers are naturally white or yellowish, so is
the raw facric. The knitted fabric is dyed to the
desired colour in dye houses. Most of the physical
properties such as softness, weight, dirt and water
repellency and flame retardancy of the fabric are all
obtained in dye houses. Pilling properties of the
fabric can be enhanced with the help of anti-pilling
chemical finish in dye houses as well.
Dyed fabric is then sent to
textile factories. Here the
fabric is controlled, tested,
cut into the desired
garment shape, sewn,
ironed and packed. After
that all packed items are
shipped to the warehouse
and stored there untill an
order is placed for them.
When a customer places an order, it is
approved by the warehouse staff. When the
order is ready for shipment, it is shipped to
the customer specified adress. When the
customer receives the package, journey of the
cotton fibers comes to the happy end.
