Task 1 – Research – Web source
Andy Warhol was a successful magazine and ad illustrator.
In his early career he was dedicated to commercial and advertising art. His first
commission was to draw shoes for Glamour magazine in the late 1940s. He
worked as a designer for a shoe manufacturer where he developed the “blotted
line” technique. This was when he applied ink to paper and blotted it while it
was still wet like the printmaking process.
In 1952 he had his first solo show at the Hugo gallery in New York, but it was not
well received. However, by 1956 he was invited to his first group exhibition at
the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
1962 was the year the Campbell’s soup can was first shown in a museum.

Warhol was the most successful and highly paid commercial illustrator in New
York even before he started to make art for galleries. His screen-printed images
of Marilyn Monroe, soup cans and newspaper stories quickly became synonymous
with pop art. He was the first artist to become famous in his lifetime
“art is what you can get away with”

PETER BAKE WAS THE FIRST WELL KNOWN POP ARTISTS IN BRITAN. HIS
WORK USUALLY CONSISTED OF DRAWING, COLLAGE AND ASSEMBLE,
SCULPTURE, PAINING USING DIVERSE MATERIALS LIKE PAPER, WOOD AND STONE.
PETER IS KNOWN FOR CREATING ALBUM ARTWORK FOR A WHOLE HOST OF ROCK
ROYALITY, INCLUDING ATISTS LIKE PENTANGLEE, ERIC CLAPTON, OASIS AND THE
BEATLES. HE ALSO DESIGNED AND CONTRIBUTED A PAINTING TO THE SLEEVE OF TE
WHO’S 1981 ABLUM FACE DANCES.
PETER IS BEST KNOWN FOR CO CREATING THE SLEEVE DESIGN FOR THE
BEATLES’ ALBUM SGT. PEPPER LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND IN 1967.
BLAKE WAS POPULAR DUE TO THE FACT THAT IN THE 1950’S HE WAS ONE OF A
GROUPS OF YOUNG ARTISTS WHO STARTED TO PAINT PICTURES AND MAKE
SCUPTURES ABOUT POPULAR CULRURE (POP CULTURE). THEY PAINTED THINGS
LIKE FILMS, COMIC BOOKS AND POP MUSIC.

MARCEL DUCHAMP ( THE CHAMPION OF DADA IN THE UNITED STATES ) TRIED TO NARROW THE DISTANC
BETWEEN ART AND LIFE BY CELEBRATING THE MASS-PRODUCED OBJECTS OF HIS TIME
ANOTHER 20TH CENTURY ARTIST WHO INFLUENCED POP ART WAS STUART DAVIES WHO DEPICTED IN HIS
PAINTINGS THE PRECISON, MASS PRODUCTION AND COMMERCIAL MATERIALS OF THE MACHINE INDUSTRIAL
AGE.
POP ART IN BRITAIN
IN 1955 A GROUP OF ARTISTS, ARCHITECTS AND DESIGN HISTORIANS MET REGUARLY TO DISCUSS DISPARATE
TOPICS SUCH AS CAR STYLING OR PULP MAGAZINE
THE GROUP THEY CALLED 'THE INEPENDENT GROUP' WERE COMMITED TO DEVELOPING A BROAD BASED
UNERSTANDING OF CULTURE FRO ITS HIGH FORMS TO ITS POPULAR ONES.
EDUARDO PAOLOZZI ( a member of the independent group) had strong sculptural interests and his
brutalist bronze cast pieces had connections with the ravaged figuration of the likes of Jean Dubuffet.

POP ART FOUND CRITICAL ACCEPTANCE AS A FORM OF AT SUITED TO THE HIGHLEY
TECHNOLIGICAL , MASS MEDIA ORIENTATED SOCIETY OF WESTERN COUNTRIES.
HISTORY OF POP ART
IT EMERGED IN THE 1950S AND WENT ONTO FLOURISH IN THE 1960S IN BOTH
AMERICA AND BRITAIN.
IT DREW INSPIRATION FROMM SOURCES IN POPULAR AND COMMERCIAL CULTURE.
THEY BELIEVED THEIR WORK WOULD END UP IN MUSEUMS BUT AS WELL AS BEING
IN MUSEUMS IT WAS INTERGRATED INTO THINGS SUCH AS HOLLYWOOD MOVIES.

 Describe three strengths of your final pieces.
 The choice of colours look nice and compliment each other nicely.
 The layout of the poster looks quite nice
 The re-colouring was done quite well and fairly neatly.
Task 4 – Evaluation – Production
 Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces.
 Some of the colours aren’t very vibrant which makes it look quite dull.
 Some areas of the face haven’t been cut out or coloured neatly as there are
some spaces with white
 I could have added some more detail to the poster to make it look less simple
and boring.
Task 4 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
 Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these
 1 Getting good quality images was difficult as there were wifi problems. Low
quality images were difficult to work with.
 I found that a lot of the tutorials that I found were outdated and hard to
follow. I had to try and work some parts out or ask.
 I haven’t used photo shop before so I found it very difficult getting started
and getting used to how it worked
Task 4 – Evaluation – Working with others
 Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your
team and this benefited the project
 1 worked together to come up with the name and decided what was good.
 2 we worked well assigning research roles and covered a range of research
topics
 3 we had good communication with what our poters were going to look like
and gave advice for the work
Task 4 – Evaluation - Feedback
I need to have more vibrant colour as it’s a bit unsaturated making it look a bit
bland. This means the poster isn’t eye catching.
Could have also added more detail to the poster as there isn’t much more and
the font is quite simple.

  • 2. Task 1 – Research – Web source Andy Warhol was a successful magazine and ad illustrator. In his early career he was dedicated to commercial and advertising art. His first commission was to draw shoes for Glamour magazine in the late 1940s. He worked as a designer for a shoe manufacturer where he developed the “blotted line” technique. This was when he applied ink to paper and blotted it while it was still wet like the printmaking process. In 1952 he had his first solo show at the Hugo gallery in New York, but it was not well received. However, by 1956 he was invited to his first group exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. 1962 was the year the Campbell’s soup can was first shown in a museum. THEY BELIEVED THEIR WORK WOULD END UP IN MUSEUMS BUT AS WELL AS BEING IN MUSEUMS IT WAS INTERGRATED INTO THINGS SUCH AS HOLLYWOOD MOVIES.

  • 10. Task 4 – Evaluation – Production  Describe three strengths of your final pieces.  The choice of colours look nice and compliment each other nicely.  The layout of the poster looks quite nice  The re-colouring was done quite well and fairly neatly.

Task 4 – Evaluation – Production  Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces.  Some of the colours aren’t very vibrant which makes it look quite dull.  Some areas of the face haven’t been cut out or coloured neatly as there are some spaces with white  I could have added some more detail to the poster to make it look less simple and boring.
  • 12. Task 4 – Evaluation – Problem Solving  Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these  1 Getting good quality images was difficult as there were wifi problems. Low quality images were difficult to work with.  I found that a lot of the tutorials that I found were outdated and hard to follow. I had to try and work some parts out or ask.  I haven’t used photo shop before so I found it very difficult getting started and getting used to how it worked

Task 4 – Evaluation – Working with others  Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your team and this benefited the project  1 worked together to come up with the name and decided what was good.  2 we worked well assigning research roles and covered a range of research topics  3 we had good communication with what our poters were going to look like and gave advice for the work
  • 14. Task 4 – Evaluation - Feedback I need to have more vibrant colour as it’s a bit unsaturated making it look a bit bland. This means the poster isn’t eye catching. Could have also added more detail to the poster as there isn’t much more and the font is quite simple.
