1. The ball was snapped to Hundley as the defense closed in on him. He looked for the
running back to hand off the ball, or the defenders thought so. Instead, he decided to keep
the ball and sprint all the way towards the end zone, passing the scrambling Trojans whose
defense collapsed under his surprising maneuvering. Touchdown! The cheers once again
drowned the stadiums; it was the fourth touchdown by the bruins.
Junior quarterback Brett Hundley delivered an amazing performance at Rose Bowl on
Saturday night, finishing off with 326 yards and three touchdown passes to Devin Lucien,
Eldridge Massington and Thomas Duarte respectively. He would also rush for a touchdown
of his own as UCLA rolled past USC with a 38:20 victory, sending Trojans its third consecutive
loss against the bruins. “UCLA runs LA, if you guys didn’t hear last year.” Hundley said with a
grin.
The bruins pulled out its best performance after a sluggish start at the season debut and
its humiliating loss against Oregon Ducks. “It’s hard to express how it feels to win three
times in a row versus your rival,” said Hundley. “Everything that goes into the game, each
year it gets bigger and bigger, and this year was to top it off. This was the biggest ---Pac -12
South, everything was on the line. And to come in our house, have everybody there and to
pull out a victory like that at home, it says a lot to this team.”
Easy as it may seem though, the bruins got off a rocky start as the first pass by Hundley
did not look anything like a star pass as it was intercepted and returned by USC linebacker
Anthony Sarao for the 17 yard touchdown, giving USC a 7:0 lead with still 11:53 to go in the
first quarter, the only lead it had in the game. “After that happened,” Hundley said, “it was
probably the calmest I was all game.” Bruins would bounce right back with a crucial recover
by Taylor Lagace off the fumble of Nelson Agholor who just dropped the ball from his hands,
never a good sign when you are up against the bruins. With 8:40 to go before the end of the
first quarter Hundley, the Star of the game, found the wide open Thomas Lucien with a 10
yard pass to give UCLA its first touchdown of the game and tied the score 7:7.
Bruins were not done for the first quarter yet. Just 40 seconds later, after successfully
holding off USC’s drive, Bruins delivered an insane one play touchdown as Hundley found
the wide receiver Thomas Lucien again who breached through the USC defense all the way
to the house for a 57 yard touchdown, giving UCLA its first lead of the game with 8:01 to go.
USC did fight back in the second quarter as the USC quarterback Cody Kessler completed
a 26 yard pass to wide receiver Juju Smith who completed the sixth USC first down. Kessler
would later find Justin Davis with a 2 yard pass to tie the game 14:14 with 11:07 to go, the
second and the last time Trojan tied the game with Bruins. The lead though would soon be
returned to UCLA as UCLA punter Ka’imi Fairbairn scored a 32 yard field goal at the following
drive, giving Bruins a three point lead. Meanwhile, UCLA would show its mighty defense with
Eric Kendrick’s interception of the pass from Cody Kessler with 4:08 to go at the half, giving
bruins another chance to extend its lead over the Trojans, which they would do so with flair.

2. Brett Hundley would find Eldridge Massington with a forward pass for a 13 yard touchdown.
UCLA 24, USC 14. UCLA held USC scoreless for the entire third quarter and the remaining of
the second quarter.
Paul Perkins, the UCLA running back, finished big with 93 yards and a 10 yard
touchdown in the third quarter following the 38 yard pass from Hundley to Thomas Duarte
who’s had a big game too, finishing off with 95 yards in the game with the two terrific
receptions. Bruins would lead USC 31:14 with 9:22 to go in the third quarter, and they
weren’t quite done yet.
Brett Hundley, who stayed perfect in his three starts against USC, would deliver his
knockout punch in the third quarter. Instead of handing off the ball to Paul Perkins, he
lunged forward to the end zone, splitting the defense with his speed for the 15 yard
touchdown that would effectively seal the deal. UCLA 38, USC 14.
USC scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 18 while
failing to score another touchdown to make an 8 point conversion, but that would be as
much as they would do for the night, as Bruins delivered to Trojans its third losses in a row.
“We are ranked 11; USC is barely in the top 25. Of course we are going to win” said the first
year Psychobiology student Claudia Riveroll during the game. She was clearly enjoying
herself along with 82430 other spectators, the largest in all Rose Bowl games. As for Trojans,
the night was indeed long.
