Hu Jun Di was born in 1962 in Jilin province, China and secretly studied painting at age 9 in Chongqing under a renowned Chinese instructor during the Cultural Revolution. After the revolution, he continued his training in oil painting at the Southwest Educational College. His work blends traditional Chinese brush techniques with Western oil painting styles, merging eastern and western cultures and techniques with dense colors that capture the lush atmosphere of Sichuan.

1. Hu Jun Di was born in the Jilin province in Northern China in 1962. He moved with his family at the height of the Cultural Revolution to the city of Chongqing where he was able to secretly study painting at 9 under a renowned Chinese instructor, who has trained some of modern China’s most celebrated artists. After the revolution, he continued his training in the oil department of the Southwest Educational College. His work is full of dense Chinese colors, the lush atmosphere and Sichuan’s warm moisture is floating in the paintings.
