1. Compare their fears when they were little
children with their current fears
 They state they have overcome most of the
fears of the past.
 They think over on what they have done to
lose those fears…
 They think about what they are afraid of
nowadays?
2. Develop a scale and a thermometer of fear
 Draw up a list, naming all the things they
would like to do in their life, but they are
afraid to try.
• Organize items from the
least scary to the
scariest
• Evaluate the fear they
feel from 1 to 10
How to overcome my fears
Thinking about and giving true answers
to themselves:
• How often have I deprived myself of going
through incredible experiences just
because of fear?
- Fear of heights
- Fear of getting lost
- Fear of exposing myself, my ideas
- Fear of expressing my feelings
- Fear of speaking in public
- Fear of failure (…)
2 options :
• Become opressed by fear and get paralyzed or
• Take control of our life, our mind, our fears

3. Overcoming Fears
• Because of fear we sometimes get paralyzed and are
unable to make decisions in our life or even think clearly
 What can be done to overcome those fears and make
importante decisions in our life?
We must face our fears and make decisions:
“What about… leaving everything behind and going on an
exchange trip?”

 if we make the decision and it doesn´t work, we shouldn´t
forget that we can always fix the situation.
 The error is not the end but the possibility of a new learning
 We may notice that the negative side has a much lower
impact than the positive one. So isn´t it worth the risk?
Measure the negative and the positive impact of their decisions in their lifes –
circle the final result with a different color.

Compare their fears when they were little children with their current fears  They state they have overcome most of the fears of the past.  They think over on what they have done to lose those fears…  They think about what they are afraid of nowadays? 2. Develop a scale and a thermometer of fear  Draw up a list, naming all the things they would like to do in their life, but they are afraid to try. • Organize items from the least scary to the scariest • Evaluate the fear they feel from 1 to 10

How to overcome my fears Thinking about and giving true answers to themselves: • How often have I deprived myself of going through incredible experiences just because of fear? - Fear of heights - Fear of getting lost - Fear of exposing myself, my ideas - Fear of expressing my feelings - Fear of speaking in public - Fear of failure (…) 2 options : • Become opressed by fear and get paralyzed or • Take control of our life, our mind, our fears Look inside of me Look at my feelings Look at my decisions What would have happened if I had: • sent that message? • made that trip? • expressed my feelings?

Overcoming Fears • Because of fear we sometimes get paralyzed and are unable to make decisions in our life or even think clearly  What can be done to overcome those fears and make importante decisions in our life? We must face our fears and make decisions: “What about… leaving everything behind and going on an exchange trip?” Situations / Decisions to take Aroused fears Make an exchange trip Leave the familiar environment behind / fear the unknown Change job /school Do not be successful /failure Participate in a theater group / be a journalist, blogger Speaking in public Holidays in other countries Flying / travelling by plane What if i had … ? What about... ?

How to overcome my fears 1 – DEFINE (negative consequences) 2 – AVOID (How to prevent something from happening) 3 - SOLVE / FIX THE SITUATION (How can I solve it?) • Difficulties of adapting to a new culture • Searching information about the culture of the country before travelling • Asking the opinion of those who live or have visited the country before • Return home • Feeling homesick • Making phone calls • Making video calls • Running out of money • Having a larger cash reserve • Get a job there or ask a family member for help • Losing your job • Before going , renegotiate your return to your job • Find a new job when you come back 1st step - TO PROGRAMME / TO PLAN

How to overcome my fears 2nd step - EVALUATE • Fluency in another language • Making friends in another country • Enriching yourself with a new culture • Getting more self confident • Living by myself and becoming more independent • Getting to know beautiful and inspiring places • Getting the job I´ve always looked for. • Starting a new life in this country What are the possible benefits of making this decision?

How to overcome my fears The price of inaction (consequences of the lack of action) WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 3rd step - CONSEQUENCES Up to 6 months (Short term) Up to 1 year (Medium term) Up to 3 years (Long term)  Not being fluent in a second language  Not being able to get my dream job  Being unemployed and having to live the same life

How to overcome my fears IF I TAKE ACTION, WHAT WILL BE THE IMPACT OF IT IN MY LIFE? 4th step - MEASURE THE IMPACT OF THE ACTION POSITIVE IMPACT NEGATIVE IMPACT 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10  if we make the decision and it doesn´t work, we shouldn´t forget that we can always fix the situation.  The error is not the end but the possibility of a new learning  We may notice that the negative side has a much lower impact than the positive one. So isn´t it worth the risk? Measure the negative and the positive impact of their decisions in their lifes – circle the final result with a different color.
