2. Resources
Pre-production is important for the smooth running of a project. It is for you to go
through final development and organisation for your project before you start
production.
The pre-production tasks you do will depend on your project. You need to
undertake appropriate tasks in order to make your project work.
A production schedule should be in everyone’s project.
The blue slides are here to give advice. This advice can also be found in the main
lecture. Delete when you don’t need it. Don’t submit your work with this in.
3. Pre-Production
Pre-production paperwork for a video game production could include:
• Risk assessment
• Sound effect list
• Music list
• Style sheet or other visual planning
• Contingency plan
• Scene plan
• Thorough production schedule/ Action Plan
• Budget
4. Pre-ProductionStyle sheet
• Collection of potential choice you could make for your products visuals (colours,
image styles and fonts). Provide some indication of which ones you will use,
where you will use them and reasons why
• This should explore alternatives to everything- don’t just include one option.
Look at several potential aspects to include and reference the ones you plan to
use and why
Layout Plans
• Potential designs you could do for your product using images, fonts and colours
from style sheet
5. Pre-Production
Colour schemes:
This is important for any visual
product.
Talk about the options you
have, the decisions you are
making and relate your ideas
back to exiting products and
your target audience.
8. Reflection:What are you making? (explain what you have been asked to do)
• An improved version of my original video game project with more characters, more animationsand more gameplay
• The improvedversion will have more platforming sections and actual turn based RPG battles that I had to remove from my
previous video game project along with more smooth animationsand more detailedcharacter and levels to make the game
feel more alive
• I hope to add more animationsfor the characters both when moving, fighting or talkingso then the game feels more alive than
how it did before in my previous project
Why? (What is the purpose of making yourproject)
• I want to improve on the originalidea because it did not feel right for me to do a piece of my project and not complete the rest
of it
• I want to improve on my game designing for if I get a job in game design in the future by making more games and creating
more unique characters and locationsfor different games
Who is it for? (Audience)
• Teenagers (between 15 and 18) who enjoy platforming games or turn based RPG games and enjoy solving mysteries behind
the stories of game franchises
Where will it appear/on what? (How will audiencesee it)
• The game will appear on the PS4 front cover and the game animationitself will be shown on YouTube and on my blog
9. Pre-Production:
Use this space to document whatever pre-production work you did for your
project. It will vary from person to person and project to project. You will need to
add more slides. Delete this advice once you don’t need it.
Musicand SoundEffectList
Music List (most I will create using Beepbox):
• Sonic the Hedgehog drowning music
• RPG battle music
• RPG walking music
• Creepy background music for the teaser
trailer
Sound EffectsList(I will try to create these using
Beepbox):
• Jumping sound effectwhen traversing each level
• Punching sound effectwhen battling
• Ki blasting sound effect while fighting
• Ki charging for transformationsduring battles
• Evil demon laughing from the song Break My
Mind for the end of the teaser
10. Pre-Production StyleSheet 1:
Platforms to help the player find new
items and traverse the level in different
ways
Dragon balls will appear in different parts of the game like
in the platforming sections or the RPG battles
The timer will count down from a certain time and when it reaches
0, sonic.exe attacks and kills the player, causing a bloody game over
Sonic.exe will suddenly appear
when the timer reaches 0
11. Pre-Production StyleSheet 2:
Some enemies will have a
dragon ball in their
possession and the player
will get it when they win
the battle
The fist icon means the attack will be close range, the blast is far
range fighting and the last symbol is for transformations which only
appear during special moments of the game.
The MP gauge will decrease when using either Ki attacks or
transformations.
When it is each characters
turn, their profile picture will
appear here to let the player
know who they are
controlling during each
phase of the fight.
The player will have the option
to choose who fights in each of
the main battles during the
game, giving the game more
replayablility.
12. Pre-Production StyleSheet 3: I want to use this similar colour scheme
from the original super Mario games
because it helps me create unique
character and level designs with bright
and attractive colours to hide the true
story and parts of the game.
I also want to use the colour scheme from the
Sonic.exe for specific moments that cause the
game to change colour to something more
dark when the timer reaches 0 and Sonic.exe
catchesand kills the player.
I plan on using the Mario colour
scheme for most of the game but when
the timer reaches 0, the colour scheme
changes to Sonic.exe's scheme.
13. Pre-Production StyleSheet 4:
I plan on using one or more of these
font styles for my final video game
project because they have a similar
pixelated art style which matches with
my games art style.
I might use Press Start 2P or SquimFont
for the title screen because they are
bod and can be edited so it can look
more attractiveto the audience. I plan
on using "Pixelated" for the main text
for the dialogue for the game because it
is simple and easy to write down in
Photoshop.
For the very end of the teaser trailer, I
plan on using the "Scary Halloween"
font for the phrase "So many souls to
play with" that will be shown at the
very end of the teaser as the font has
the letters drip with blood which hints
at the darker tones hidden in the game.
14. Pre-Production StyleSheet 5-PlayableCharacters:
These are sketches of what the
profile pictures of the playable
characters when it is their turn to
fight during the RPG battles. These
will be used to let the audience
know who they are controlling.
I will also use the profile pictures
for when the characters are
speaking, using lip animations to
make the game and characters
look and feel more alive.
For characters like Goku and
Vegeta, who have transformations,
their profile will change slightly
during battlesto match how they
look on the battlefield
15. ContingencyPlanning
PotentialIssue Solution
Computer shutting down/breaking down Save work regularly and back up work to USB and if not fixed by current
tutor, consult IT support team or other members of staff
Cameraman can't make it to recording on time Work on other aspects of the project like the script or the game itself
Animations or designs mess up during
production
Try to fix any issues before finishing the final product
Something goes wrong with recording the
teaser like the noose causing me discomfort
Stop recording, get off noose and try to sort out the problem
Lewis constantly moving us Save work onto USB and online
Equipment/ Props/ Costume needed Locations needed
Camera to record the teaser Studio
Large rope to tie a noose with-will probably require assistance to set up and make sure
nothing goes wrong while recording the teaser trailer
Computer/Mac Classrooms
Resources
16. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
Computer or Mac shocking me Find a way to deal with it and keep working
Obstaclesin the way like wires on
the floor
Try to avoid them while working and if given enough
time, put all obstaclesout of the way
Eye, back and wrist strains Take regular breaks to avoid any strains
Being blinded by the bright lights
in the studio
Lower the brightness of the lights and try to use the lights
less often
