My research concentrated on the study of brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) and their interactions with circulating breast tumor cells (CBTCs), following their extravasation to the brain. We hope to continue to address the mechanism(s) by which CBTCs are able to breach and infiltrate the BBB to form metastases in brain. We will examine the kinetics and the changes in tight junctions expression and localization in BMECs, the activation of BMECs by CBTCs and their interactions with each other, leading to co-option, colonization and metastasis formation in brain, using in vivo mice models.
