PREVENTION
OF SUBSTANCE
USE AND
ABUSE
BUZZ TIME!!!
Have a buzz session with the class about the present drug scenario in the country.
Drug Scenario in the Philippines
Drug abuse in the Philippines is a serious problem
because it is not just the lives of those who become hooked
but also the lives of those in the family and the community
that are destroyed.
According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines’
Narcotics Command, ages 15 to 29 years are commonly
hooked to drugs.
According to the International Narcotics Control Board
(INCB), The Philippines is listed as one of the countries in
Southeast Asia where drug trafficking is growing in numbers.
Drug Scenario in the Philippines
In the Philippines, drug use and abuse is a social and health
concern. Poverty has become an increasing cause for involvement in
the illegal drug trade.
Foreign drug syndicates take advantage and exploit the poor and
use promises of ‘easy money’ to entice the people to serve as couriers
and runners.
According to the 2012 statistics available in the
Dangerous Drug Board Website, the most common type
of substance of abuse among Filipino are: Shabu,
Marijuana, Inhalants.
Drug Scenario in the Philippines
On the first State of the Nation Address of President
Rodrigo Duterte said that based on the data from the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), there were about
3 million drug addicts in the country two or three years ago,
and possibly 3.7 million now.
According to 2015 data the Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency (PDEA), one fifth of barangays or villages in the
Philippines have drug-related cases. Metro Manila is the
region most affected by drugs with 92% of its barangays
having drug-related cases.
Drug Scenario in the Philippines
This is the reason why the government is
steadfast in the fight of eradicating the supply and
demand of illegal drugs.
President Rodrigo Duterte launched
an all-out war against drug abuse and
drug trade because these are destroying
the lives and future of the people.
