To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to recommend Heidi Limburg for a social work position. Heidi came to Climax-Scotts
Community Schools at the beginning of the 2006-07 school year as an intem in the last year of her
graduate program at Westem Michigan University. She has served during that internship under the
supervision of Steve Turner, our School Social Worker. Heidi has worked with students of all ages in all
three of our school buildings: Elementary, Intermediate and Junior/Senior High. In my role as school
psychologist and special education coordinator for Climax-Scotts, I have had opportunities to work with
Heidi and have appreciated her professional expertise, capable performance and teamwork.
Heidi has many strengths and characteristics that help her to stand out as an exemplary intern in school
social work. She has a warm and gentle personality which puts others at ease; yet, she is not reluctant to
take the initiative to meet a need or resolve a situation. She is an effective communicator, interacting in
a positive and productive manner with students of any age, parents, and various professionals. Her
methods of meeting students' needs are creative and practical, lending to effective small-group sessions
or other interventions which are tailored to fit the student and are designed to bring about the desired
progress. She has recently been leading six different groups across all three schools that cover subjects
including friendship and communication, listening and social skills, friendship circle, homework skills,
homework help and strong teens. During a recent crisis situation with an adolescent student, Heidi took
the initiative to volunteer her assistance and was instrumental in developing and implementing an
appropriate intervention which was acceptable to all parties. She has utilized and values interventions
supported by research findings. Heidi is a skilled collaborator, often teaming with others to address
concerns. She has been involved in performing special education evaluations and preparing the related
reports. Heidi exhibits an understanding of the emotional and behavioral development of children, as
well as related impairments.
In addition to capably addressing the needs of various Climax-Scotts students, Heidi has participated in
monthly special education itinerant staff meetings with other school social workers, as well as
speechllanguage therapists, school psychologists, and teacher consultants from our five-district Eastern
Service Area under K-RESA. She has also attended training presentations including Positive Behavior
Supports, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Celebrating Families, Traumatic Brain Injury and IEP Report
Completion.
Finally, Heidi has many personal characteristics and professional skills that make her a highly-valued
member of our school team. I would not hesitate to hire her if our district had an opening for a full-time
school social worker; unfortunately, that is not the case. I regret that Heidi's time in our district is drawing
to a close. I appreciate the blessing she has been to me and to so many others within the Climax-Scotts
school system and community this year. If you would like more information, please feel free to call me
at 269-746-2203 (work) or 269-353-8753 (home).
Sincerely,
