The AS5147P is a high-resolution rotary position sensor for high speed (up to 28krpm) angle measurement over a full 360 degree range. This new position sensor is equipped with a revolutionary integrated dynamic angle error compensation (DAEC™) with almost 0 latency.
The robust design of the device suppresses the influence of any homogenous external stray magnetic field. A standard 4-wire SPI serial interface allows a host microcontroller to read 14-bit absolute angle position data from the AS5147P and to program non-volatile settings without a dedicated programmer.
Incremental movements are indicated on a set of ABI signals with a maximum resolution of 4096 steps / 1024 pulses per revolution. The product is defined as SEooC (Safety Element out of Context) according ISO26262 including FMEDA, safety manual and third party qualification.

Welcome !
ams launched a new version of its 47 series of magnetic rotary position sensors for motor and motion control applications. The high speed rotary position sensor AS5147P is ideal for use in ultra-high speed automotive applications, offers magnetic stray field immunity and supports ISO26262 compliance programs.
During this session we will make you familiar with the most important background information , features and benefits of this new member of the ams 47 series family.
Here is a quick overview of ams Hall-based magnetic position sensors which can address both remote and embedded applications. As shown in this slide the AS5147P is Angular on-axis rotary position sensor which can be used in applications like electric power steering (EPS), brake and accelerator pedals, pumps, double-clutch transmissions, starter motors, alternators and windscreen wiper motors.
A comparison of the AS5147 versus the AS5147P shows improvements in the following areas:
Maximum speed: up to 28k rpm
Encoder resolution (bit/deg): 12/0.09
Encoder pulses: max. 1024 (bin)
Noise: 0.06°rms
Dynamic angle error correction (linear prediction)
Dynamic angle error @28krpm: 0.35°
Standard SPI interface
Functional Safety: SEooC according ISO 26262
Like other members of the 47 series, the new AS5147P features ams’ DAEC™ (dynamic angle error compensation) technology, which produces outstanding angle measurement accuracy even at very high rotation speeds. The total system cost of a design based on the 47 series is also normally far lower than the cost of an equivalent optical encoder or resolver.
In the new AS5147P sensor, the maximum rated measurement speed has been increased up to 28,000rpm, thus enabling it to support many high speed rotating shaft applications that previously could only be addressed with optical encoders. The AS5147P enables manufacturers to achieve ISO26262 compliance by offering very high reliability, comprehensive analysis of the effects of directly and indirectly dangerous faults, and very low Failure In Time (FIT) rates and can be used in applications requiring any ASIL grade.
The AS5147P was developed in adherence to the ISO26262 flow, following the SEooC
(Safety Element out of Context) and AoU (Assumption of Use) guidelines specified in the
standard, thus helping manufacturers to achieve the requirements of any ASIL grade
ams provides a safety manual and failure mode effects diagnostic analysis (FMEDA) document
for the AS5147P, guiding customers on the way to achieve their target ASIL grade in
various applications. Evidence – safety case, certifications and the AECQ-100 qualification (PPAP) – is ready to
provide the documentation of the AS5147P’s development process. The complete SEooC process according to the ISO26262 and the documentation supporting it are certified by an independent third party. The AS5147P provides internal diagnostic functions supporting ISO26262 processes, including magnetic field strength threshold detection, and detection of loss of magnet.
The problem with the existing magnetic position sensors on the market is a delay which a result of signal processing. This causes wrong angle position outputs, especially at high rotation speeds. The value of the so called dynamic angle error depends on rotation speed.
Additional hardware chips can calculate this error and do a software correction on the output angle. Therefore significant software development is needed. But still this result is not as good as using ams’ patented DAEC™.
The DAEC™ Dynamic Angle Error Compensation is the unique feature of the new generation of ams’ position sensors. It is a single chip solution which reduces the Dynamic Angle Error almost to zero. It delivers all the advantages of contactless angle measurement and there is a much better accuracy over speed. Further, it is easy to use, simple to program and reduce development costs as well as time to market.
High Output refresh rate allows for faster control loops and eliminates need for compensation. ams´ patented technology DAECTM reduces the angle error to almost zero.
Stray field immunity against homogeneous external magnetic stray fields can be guaranteed by the ams patented principle. Thanks to the crossed differential measurements all ams magnetic position sensor can stand external magnetic stray field much above the limits required by the most demanding OEMs
Application example – electric power steering
The EPS motor with AS5147P inside controls commutation of brushless DC motor.
Application example – efficient motor commutation
Brushless DC (BLDC) motor are the preferred choice in EPS as it offers better starting torque and efficiency. The AS5147P provides fast and accurate measurements and eliminates need for discrete hall sensors in stator.
The new AS5147P from ams ensures superior durability through contactless “system-on-chip” solution, reduces system costs and offers high accuracy of < ±1.0°.
The AS5147P draws on patented DAEC™ (Dynamic Angle Error Compensation) technology to deliver accurate position measurements even at extremely high rotation speeds. The DAEC compensation scheme reduces the propagation delay inherent in the sensor’s signal chain to almost zero.
In addition, the AS5147P supports automotive OEMs’ ISO26262 compliance programs through increased functional safety via on-sensor diagnostics.
Unlike competitive ICs for high speed rotational shaft applications the AS5147P from ams provides ultra-low latency, fast output refresh rates, stray field immunity, and high accuracy performance, while enabling reduced system costs.
Compared with discrete sensors for high speed rotational shaft applications and motor commutation the AS5147P provides ultra-low latency, very fast output refresh rates, stray field immunity, and high accuracy performance, while reducing system costs.
The rigorous ISO26262 standard for automotive functional safety requires vehicle manufacturers to achieve high levels of reliability, to analyze the effects of the failure modes of components and systems, and to take measures to guarantee functional safety in the event of a predictable failure. The AS5147P enables improved ISO26262 system safety compliance.
