1. EDGAR ALLAN POE

2. LIFE
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston (USA) the 19th
Janury of 1809. His parents were David Poe and
Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe but but soon his
father would abandon his family and his mother
died of tuberculosis a year later. Edgar was adopted
by a charitable family formed by Frances and John
Allan.
Edgar enrolled in the University of Virginia in 1826,
but a year later he left it when his stepfather
wouldn't continue keeping him because of his
addiction to the game and drink.
That same year, he traveled to Boston where he
published his first book, Tamerlane and other
poems.

3. Shortly after, he enlisted in the army where he
stayed for two years until 1829 when he published
his second book of poems, Al Aaraf.
The following year he published his third book,
Poems in 1831, he moved to Baltimore where he
lived with his aunt and an 11-year-old niece. A
year later, he won a prize by a manuscript that had
been found in a bottle.
Between 1837 and 1853 was editor of Southern
Baltimore Messenger thanks to his great writing
skills. In 1836 he married his young niece and the
following years he worked as an editor for several
american journals.
In 1847, his wife died and he got ill; his disastrous
addiction to alcohol and drugs, contributed to his
early death in Baltimore on 7th
October of 1849.

4. WORKS
He was a writer, poet, critic and journalist
romantic. He was a renovator of the gothic novel,
especially remembered for its tales of terror and
poems. He was considered the inventor of the
detective story, he contributed also with several
works to the emerging genre of science fiction.

Tales of horror or gothic tales:
They are his most famous work. The tell-tale heart,
The black cat or The demon of perversity are some
of his are some of his best works in this genre.

5. NOVEL
Poe is the author of a single novel: The Narrative of
Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket in 1838. It's a
story of adventure sailor type episodic, centered on
its fearless protagonist, who would later apear in
the works of Stevenson.

6. POETRY
Probably, not having to work of journalist, Poe is
there would be devoted exclusively to poetry because
the poetry was one of his favorite genres and in which
he wrote many books such as: Annabel Lee or
Ulalume.

7. OPINION
Personally, I like reading his novels, especially the
horror ones, but I think that he did bad in his live
because he was addicted to alcohol and other
things and that was the reason of his death.
His life was so difficult because his parents left him
but he could continue with his life and I think that
he is a great man for this.
