1. Irrawang High Service learning AND VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM Year 9 and 10 1010 Giving back to our community
2. Volunteering and Service Learning Week The NSW Premier’s Volunteering Program was introduced into Irrawang High School for the first time in 2010, as part of the community involvement and engagement component of our year 9 and 10 Project REAL (Relaxing, enjoyable, alternative learning) in HSIE. During Week 9 of Term 4 IrrawangHigh had more then 60 year 9 and 10 students undertake 4 days of volunteering and service learning projects at a range of not-for-profit and government organisations throughout Raymond Terrace, Medowie and the Port Stephens community. The feedback received from all organisations, from our feeder primary schools to the local Community Care was that our students displayed a high level of maturity, hard work and commitment during their Volunteering and Service Learning Week and should be congratulated on the positive way they represented the school, and contributed to their local community.
58. Our Philosophy: As part of their involvement in Project REAL, students are encouraged to contribute and give back to their local community. Students are provided with opportunities through out the year from participation in Clean up Australia Day, Harmony Day to Pink Ribbon fundraising at the local shopping centre. Student volunteering helps to contribute to the development of the whole childand encourage students to become active members of the community. We hope to continue to encourage and build upon an ethos and culture of caring and giving within the school and community.
