Brief History of the Organization:
VAMA-Bal-Mahila Vikas Samiti is a non-profit voluntary
organization, registered under Madhya Pradesh Societies
Registration Act 1973, working for the dis-advantaged social
groups like dalits, tribes, women, working children and other
deprived classes. The Society was commenced in 1988 as a
result of unprecedented efforts and visionary thoughts of the
most concerned individuals who had the affinity with
unprivileged and backward rural & urban society. The dream
of founders’ human society devoid of caste, creed and
religion based discrimination, exploitation, atrocities etc.
It is also registered under the Foreign Contribution
Regulation Act (FCRA) and 12A & 80G of Income tax Act,
1961 & registered in planning commission of India (Neety
Aayog) (Regt. No.-MP/2009/0008908. It is working for the
empowerment of dalits, poor & marginalized communities.

2. Aims and objectives:
To promote activities focused on the development of the downtrodden, backward, dalits & tribal
communities.
To work for the communities in such a way that they develop spirit for mutual co-operation, participation
gender equality, integrity and justice. To ensure information and dissemination.
To promote education and awareness, on health and nutrition, the use of science and technology based on
traditional pattern, ecological farming and sustainable livelihood systems.
To promote sustainable utilization of human and natural resources: land, water, biological resources,
energy, etc. and to popularize the use of renewable/alternative energy sources for ecological restoration.
To develop micro enterprises based on local resources and undertake capacity building activities for the
up-liftmen of the poor, marginalized and other vulnerable groups.
To promote alternative income generation to women groups through capacity building and micro credit
activities.
To ensure participation of last person of community in planning, implementation and monitoring of
development process.
To work for development of rural and urban slums develop local resources for generating funds.
To prepare a cadre of financially literate women community.
To build the capacity of mF service provider and the stake holders of mF through appropriate training
inputs and mentor services.
To develop Proper coordination amongst government, banks, foreign funding and financial institutions.
Areas of Operation:
VAMA has been working in the various blocks of the Gwalior, Chambal and Bundelkhand regions of
Madhya Pradesh which are the areas characterized by geographical remoteness and core
backwardness. VAMA has been working for the empowerment of dalits, poor & marginalized
communities to address their immediate needs and better access to entitlements & rights.

Activities & Achievements:
Community based approaches have generated encouraging response during last 27 years. Some
important achievements of the intervention are as follows:
The organization has been trying to its best to provide the need based mF services to its clients. As part of
promoting mF under the banner of VAMA has more than 21,759 members covering 226 villages and 49 urban
slums of Gwalior district. To motivate women for regular meetings and to inculcate banking habits the
organization extended credit facilities largely for self-employment and productive purposes like farming,
horticulture, animal husbandry, dairy, poultry, Goatry and small shop-keepers and small scale producers.
VAMA gives loan to rural & urban slum people in Gwalior Chambal region to construct low-cost toilet @ very
small rate of interest, Loan from Habitat for Humanity India are interest free. We constructed more than 5000
toilets by our own fund, 101 toilets from Rang-De Fund & 820 toilets from HFH till now.
The programme named “Aabhas” which is supported by Water-Aid successfully implemented in year 2003. Safe
drinking water, sanitation facilities arrangement has been made available for 512 families of 10 villages.
VAMA also a part of a project Clean which is supported by Finish society (Financial Inclusion Improves
Sanitation & Health). From April 2013 we aware more than 25,000 people in rural villages & urban slums to have
toilets at their home & 8916 peoples got constructed toilets by our influence & connected to Govt. Schemes.
Innovative pilot project on financial literacy has already launched under which more than 6000 poor and
marginalized women of rural areas and urban slums has been educated on financial management successfully as a
result of which more of SHGs and women groups are participating in financial literacy program. More than 70,000
people took the training financial literacy & got benefitted.
Conducted many campaign on “Beti Bachao Abhiyan” with M.P. Voluntary health association at Maharaj Bada
with more than 550 peoples. The news is published in news papers like Nav-Bharat & Dainik Bhasker.
Community based Natural Resource Management program benefiting 469 families of dalit communities.
NRHM & RCH (Reproductive & child health activities) programs are in force in district Datia as the organization
is approved as mother NGO by the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh. VAMA is providing
its support on mother & child health issues in co-ordination with district health society, Datia.
VAMA has experience on various trainings like the issues of women empowerment, training of ASHAs,
Panchayati Raj issues, MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and other social
& financial issues by experienced trainers.
Special focus on sensitive issues like violence against women, female feticide & sex determination.
Promoting ecologically sustainable farming system for ensuring agriculture development and food security.
Approx 800 ASHAs- Accredited Social Health Activist train by us every year since 2010. We also provide training
to orientation of newly wedded couple. VAMA institution has its own ANM (Auxiliary nurse mid wife) training
centre in 5 bigha land in Datia, where 30 ANM take education in every year.
The organization has done Targeted Intervention (TI) Project supported by Madhya Pradesh Aids Control Society
in Districts Mandsour and Neemuch
VAMA has organized Skill Development Program (SDP) on Sanitary Napkin making in the villages of Morar
block supported by NABARD.
Conducted a workshop on “De-addiction awareness building” in Gwalior & Bhander block of Datia district. 81
old age people, youth & females FROM SCs, STs and OBC were participated in it.
With National Council of Science and Technology Communication vama arranged a 5 days’ workshop on
“Science behind miracle” with former collector of Gwalior & more than 375 participants.
Conducted program on “Violence against Women” supported by PACS, DFID for two years & four months. We
worked as a lead NGO working in Vidisha and Sagar Districts of M.P., with the support of 4 other NGOs
VAMA is also started its VAMA convent school from play group to 8th
class in district Datia from year 2014
where 350 students from 17 villages in Datia is taking education at very low cost. 3
