“To summarize: The Lay Catholic educator is a person who
exercises a specific mission within the Church by living, in faith, a
secular vocation in the communitarian structure of the school:
with the best possible professional qualifications, with an
apostolic intention inspired by faith, for the integral formation of
the human person, in a communication of culture, in an exercise of
that pedagogy which will give emphasis to direct and personal
contact with students, giving spiritual inspiration to the
educational community of which he or she is a member, as well as
to all the different persons related to the educational community.
To this lay person, as a member of this community, the family and
the Church entrust the school's educational endeavour. Lay
teachers must be profoundly convinced that they share in the
sanctifying, and therefore educational mission of the Church; they
cannot regard themselves as cut off from the ecclesial complex.”

Note: “ See-Judge-Act” is the three vital elements and stages of the “Review of Life” or “ROL” developed by Joseph Cardinal Cardijn in the 1930s and still being used by the Young Christian Workers (YCW) now known as “Review of Life and Worker Action” (ROLWA). In the book published in 1980, “Social Analysis: Linking Faith and Justice,” authors Joe Holland and Peter Henriot S.J., discuss the principles of Christian justice as contained in the Scriptures and in Catholic social teaching, and how students might put those principals into action in the world around them. They call their approach, “the circle of faith-in-action,” to emphasize the relationship between faith and action in doing justice. The authors call their three steps Awareness, Analysis and Action. The Federation of Asian Bishop Conference (FABC) through the Bishop Institute for Social Action (BISA VII) formally endorsed the “Pastoral Cycle” as its methodology towards a liberative spirituality that expected to transform all social action into evangelization, pastoral renewal and the milieu of God experience. It was later refined and called “Pastoral Spiral” in order to emphasize the continuous deepening process involved.
