Walk to equality:
Ensuring safety
And
Empowerment of women
“Empower? yes, but safety first”
The problem:
 Even though they make up half the population, women and girlshave
endured discriminationin most societies for thousandsof years.
 In the past, womenwere treated as propertyof theirhusbandsor
fathers - theycouldn't own land, theycouldn't voteor go to school, and
weresubjectto beatings and abuse and could do nothing aboutit.
 Overthe last decades, much progress has beenmade to gain equal
rightsfor women aroundthenation, but theystill live without the
rightsto whichall peopleare entitled.
 But todaywhat is more important is giving thema secureand safe
environment. Theyfeelsunsafe wherevere theygo, and it needsto be
changed now.
Broader view:
 Women's are the wealthof Indiaand they have contributedin almost
every field and made country feel proudat every occasion. They are
in front, leading the country, making mile stones and source of
inspirationfor many.
 However, another reality of Indiansociety is that there is systematic
discriminationandneglect of women's in India, which could be in
terms of inadequate nutrition, denial or limited access to education,
healthand property rights, child labour and domestic violence etc.
The fear of sexual violence has been a powerful factor in restricting
women's behavior and sense of freedom. The struggle against
violence is actually the struggle against the unequal distributionof
power both physical andeconomic betweenthe sexes.
The main causes:
 Lack of education( quality education)
 Poisoned thinking
 Increasing pornographic content
 Orthodox society
Some solutions:
 Help them become business leader
 Help them grown more and better food
 Help them rebuild after conflicts
 Help them and their daughters get an
education
 Separate classes or course for all (teaching manners), this education
should not be bounded to schools and institutes.
 Banning porn sites( if pakistan can ban whole youtube, india is far
ahead!)
 Deploying police constables in formals and not in uniforms( a
criminal may hide fromlawbut cannot hide frompublic).
 Ensuring proper and safe transport for working women, hire
private firms for doingthis( govt. firms makes people lazy, private
firms keeps a strict eye on their employees).
 Deploy women constables in slumareas and rural areas, this will
do two benefits, firstly these constables will ensure safetyof girls
and women in that area and secondly they will inspire the women
that they may also get opportunity to become like them.
 Targeting teens to avoid getting addicted to bad things (
nowadays teens are the ones who are victims and who are
criminals also).
 Teaching people by targetingtheiremotions( then only a lot more
NIRBHAYAS can be savedinstead of leavingthembleeding on the
roads).
Implementation of solutions
 Help thembecome business leaders
Evidence shows that women in Africa re-invest about 90
percent of their income back into their households
compared to between 30 and 40 percent for men. Giving
women the knowledge and skills they need to run successful
farms and businesses is an efficient way to strengthen poor
families.
 Help themgrown more andbetter food
Women produce between 60 and 80 percent of the foodin most
developing countries, despite having less access to land and
credit than men do. Providing themwiththe tools and training
they need to raise quality and yields is one of the best ways to
increase food production in countries prone to hunger.
 Help themrebuild after conflicts
Women are particularly vulnerable in times of conflict, even as
their role as providers becomes more important than ever.
Easingtheir return home by giving themthe tools and training
they need to rebuild can kick-start the recovery process for an
entire community.
Help them and their daughters get an education:
Two thirds or the approximately75 million children denied an
education around the worldare girls. Yet studies showthat
educatedwomen have healthier children, who are more likely to
livelonger and attend schools themselves. Educating women is
thus an important first step towards beating povertyand
hunger
 Open air moral institutes should be opened and afterfinishingof the
course, a simple certificate should be given n that can be checked anytime
by any govt. authority to ensure maximumparticipation.
 Hiring some leader private firms which can find and block maximum
pornsites so as to have some control over sexual desires of some illiterates.
 Taking into account the number of women workingin night shift and
then provide themproper transport facilities.
 Givingsome theatre companies and nukkad natakgroups to touch
maximumpeople and makingthemaware of what is right and wrong
( people understand betterby what they see andhear).
Financial and human resources required:
 Of course, some finance wouldbe requiredandwithout
manpower nothing can be done, so
 Financing can be done either by raising donations( a large
educated group will easily donate as this is the neccessity
for today).
 Or this can be done asking a bank for loan andthat loan
can be paidback after publicstarts getting involved.
 Finance will not be a big issue but arranging manpower
will certainly be a big issue.
 Some of the jobless youth can be targetedwith a lineant
amount of salary so that some initiation can be given.
 Teachers who are freshly paased outs should be askedto teach
in rural areas for a timespan as their assignment, in this way
sufficient manpower can be providedin rural areas.
 Constables will be requiredto be deployedin maximumareas
covering.
FUNDING SOURCES
 VARIOUS NON GOVT. ORGANISATIONS IN
THE COUNTRY.
 SEEK HELP FROM FAMOUS PERSONALITIES
IN FUNDIND AND SPREADING MESSAGE TO
ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Impact of the solution:
Impact of this solution will be:
 The illiterate people who don’t have basic knowledge will get
to know about the things properly and hence a change in
behaviour may be observed.
 Those people who intentionally indulge in bad activities will
be caught easily if police officials get mixedup with crowd.
 People will be more kindin helping a person in needrather
than avoiding a dying person on road.
 The women working in night shifts will feel more safe if
proper and safe transport will be providedto them.
 Girls in rural areas andalso women can be motivatedto rise
up andachieve something in their lives.
Some challenges:
 Our society remains a challenge as for now. The
thinking gap between two generations is the root
cause for it. Rural people may oppose the uplift of their
wives or daughters because of their thinking. But still
with some efforts this can be handled.
 Politicizing an issue is like a trend today. So these
things may get politicized easily, but if they are
implemented properly and in a very short time then
hopefully we will see very good results.
