2. The Fleet Store 2015 is a pop-up store presented by
QUT Fashion students, showcasing products designed
by up and coming QUT students and alumni.
Launching on 21 August 2015, the store will be open
for business until 27 August and stock various original
fashion products, accessories and fine arts!
This year, The Fleet Store endeavours to encapsulate
the contemporary spirit of Australiana as inspiration
for local Australian designers. The aesthetic is inspired
by the beaches and sunsets of Australia, with playful
and brightly coloured outfits echoing national flora.

scene, pick up a piece of your own to take home
and help us make The Fleet Store 2015 a year to
remember!

3. Bronte Bateup the Label - Bronte Bateup
Bronte Bateup the label is a Sunshine Coast/Brisbane based
accessories label for the woman who wants to stand out. Each
statement piece is handmade, inspired by natural environments
and the traditional dress. Using found objects, recycled beads and
jewellery, the label aspires to inject the art and fun into accessorising
whilst still looking elegant and chic.
Internet Party - Neneh Browne
Internet Party is a Brisbane based label, established by Neneh
Browne, a current second year Fashion Design student at QUT.
Internet Party is a fashion forward label that sells garments for
anyone who likes them, however they’re mostly created with young
people in mind. Neneh’s designs and aesthetic are mostly inspired
by art and fashion subculture, with a focus on fun and interesting
fabrics, surfaces and prints.
The recently founded Brisbane brand Alexandra Georgia Design
focuses on achieving simple yet interesting design through an edgy
meets elegant aesthetic. provides exclusive womenswear for those
interested in fashionable statements. The exclusive womenswear
range, designed to be sold at The Fleet Store, uses oriental-inspired
fabrics, feminine silhouettes and flexible fastenings. This apparel
is most suited to an intelligent, independent and fierce female
customer.

4. Nico underwear is unique, style-driven
lingerie to wear every day. Nico minimises
their impact on the environment and
manufacture all garments in Australia under
ethical conditions. All materials are sustainably
sourced and Nico Underwear is made to last.
Nico was the first Australian underwear brand to be
accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia. This label is all
about good looks and good karma.
Nico - Lis Harvey
Ololade Adeniyi is an artist, designer and architecture student
based in Brisbane. Employing the use of vibrant colours and eclectic
patterns, she creates art that is both intrinsic and haphazard in its
nature. Each piece created is exclusive in its process as she moves
back and forth between mediums. Trans-global raised designer
Ololade Adeniyi draws inspiration from her extensive travelling and
original roots in the vibrant city of Lagos. Ololade’s cross cultural
outlook on life has enabled her to develop a distinctive eye on colour,
creativity and design as a whole.
O.M.A -Ololade Adeniyi
Covert is a vegan womenswear apparel and accessories label,
established by QUT Fashion and Advertising student, Claire
Woodfield. Inspired by the power of compassion, Covert designs
embrace eccentricity and optimism. Founded in 2014, the aim was
to offer sustainable, creative and cruelty-free clothing. Freedom is
an ethos we apply to all, and for this reason, Covert is committed to
using non-animal based materials. To ensure rarity, sustainability and
never-compromising originality, every garment is limited edition,
with one style never to be manufactured more than 50 times.

5. Polka Customs specialise in crafting premium athletic apparel. They
use the latest fabrics and cutting edge manufacturing techniques
to produce all their garments. Polka Customs draws inspiration
from street fashion, urban design, bike functionality, technical
fabrics and bespoke tailoring.

J.A.M. - Jack A. Milne
J.A.M. is an exclusive mini-collection designed to be sold at The
Fleet Store 2015, created by Jack A. Milne, a current QUT Fine
Arts (Fashion) Student. Inspired by clashing contemporary artistic
qualities with traditional tailored shirting, J.A.M uses customary shirt
fabrics and printed stripes to create over-shirts simplistic in shape
and form, yet powered by colour and movement. J.A.M hopes to
bridge the gap between women and menswear in a traditionally
inspired way.
Designed & handcrafted in Australia, Crop Design’s products are
made using punctured inner tubes otherwise destined for landfill.
Crop uses anything from tiny road bike tubes through to tractor
behemoths – adding seatbelt webbing & top notch hardware to
produce their gear. Crop Design’s creations are ethically produced,
durable & sleek. As they are handmade to order, and every inner
tube differs, each item is unique. Crop Design stands for the belief
that stylish design and social consciousness don’t have to be
exclusive. For The Fleet Store, they have created a range of beautiful
ready made items. They also offer custom services for the customer
with a particular design in mind.

6. arkie. focuses on hand-designed and printed textiles heavily informed
by her heritage as an Indigenous Australian. With a collection of
digitally printed silk scarves inspired by native Australian desert flora
arkie. presents a fresh and youthful take on the Australian design
Aesthetic. The 2015 Fleet Scarf collection reflects on the designer's
creative journey depicting a variety of textile work from within her
creative journey.
arkie - Arkie Barton
Florentina is an exploration of modern design by QUT Fashion and
Business student, Isabel Byram. Key elements of structure and
ephemerality are prevailing concepts within the label. Isabel’s
Filipino heritage dictates the aesthetic choices within her work, as
well as a love of architecture and travel.

7. Dinosaurs for Tea is an independent accessories label with a focus
on creating fun and unique pieces. The label came about after an
inspiring trip to Japan where designer Felice Caffery was taken by
the colourful and eclectic Harajuku style seen on the streets of Tokyo.
Embracing this anything goes attitude, Dinosaurs for Tea transforms
dinosaurs and a menagerie of wildlife into wearable pieces of art
that are sure to start a conversation.

Sundae is a childrenswear label designed and created by Brisbane-
based QUT student fashion designers, Kaydee and Ashley. The duo
is inspired by easy shapes, lightweight cotton and accent prints.
The label offers a playful and wearable collection of boys and girls
clothing - from nappy covers for the little ones and skirts, shorts and
tops for the older ones.

As a BFA fashion student in my final year I have been building and
experimenting vastly with a range of transparent materials in my
final collection Alchemy. During this journey I have designed and
cultivated variety of bespoke accessories, in particular unique resin
earrings colourfully showcasing the beauty in many of my favourite
candies and beads. These earrings were especially inspired by my
travels throughout New York and the Spanish markets of Barcelona,
with each being handmade and one of a kind.

Domenic Bartlett-Roylance established his label Roylance in his
first year studying fashion design and public relations at QUT. The
designer draws inspiration from a range of sources including art,
travel and iconic figures. His aspiration is to bring fresh concepts
and aesthetics to the fashion industry whilst creating clothing that
remains relevant season after season. The Roylance customer will
feel empowered and sophisticated whilst wearing his designs.

8. Thomas Frederick Cope launched his accessories label ‘Freddie’ last
year in his fourth year of Business to challenge his commerce skills
and creative abilities. With its distinctively playful aesthetic, Freddie
uses punchy prints and bold fabrics to create high-impact statement
pieces with an irresistible sense of fun.

Amaia - Felicia Balsategui
Amaia is the label by current design student Felicia Balsategui.
The label is primarily streetwear with a focus on print clashes and
mixing of fabrics. The label strives to provide wearable garments
that are fresh and innovative. With a background in graphic design
and fashion design, a focus on colour and print design is prevalent
across the works of this designer.
Alexandra Bell is a first-year QUT fashion student dedicated to
designing and creating fashion. Working her way up to producing
a variety of garments including formal dresses, casual clothing and
accessories, Alexandra aims to create a range of fashion items that
allow individual expression. Her label Xandra Bell is representative of
quality; femininity; edginess; and adventure.

Saxon Hunter - Joash teo
Saxon Hunter offers original ready-to-wear and made-to-measure
designs. The young designer behind the brand, Joash, has sewn
since childhood and fosters an interest in bridging opposing styles
to create a unique aesthetic. While Joash feels that establishing
the massive fashion empire of his dreams is far from near, he looks
forward to a lifetime of laughs and great experiences to come. 7
9. With refined, minimal, architectural, sculptural and polished
designs, Brisbane self-titled label, Ellen Chandler strives to capture
the essence of contemporary fashion. Ellen Chandler the label
endeavours to build a unique aesthetic through the use of bold,
sleek and modern silhouettes. The EC girl is progressive in her style,
simple in taste, yet never boring!

Inspired by all things sugar coated, Sweet Innocence is the brainchild
of emerging designer and full time sweet-tooth Bonnie Graham.
Lovingly handmade in Byron Bay, the polymer clay jewellery is baked
in an oven the same way Bonnie bakes her cupcakes, that is, with a
delicatehandandadustingoficingsugar.SweetInnocencepromotes
the belief that fashion should leave the world a better place, which
is why we manufacture locally and ethically source all materials on
our ingredients list. We believe the slow fashion movement will play
an integral role in the development of the fashion industry, which is
why each piece crafted to last a lifetime.

10. In association with State Library of Queensland, The Fleet Store
will host a one-day Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event,
entitled ‘Totes for Tots’, on Tuesday 25 August from 9am-6pm.
QUT Staff and Students will be sewing library bags for Prep
children to encourage interest and learning in literacy.
The Salvation Army has kindly donated approximately two
hundred pairs of jeans which The Fleet Store volunteers will
upcycle into totes. The Edge, State Library of Queensland has
kindly provided the hire of their Auditorium for the event.
CSR Manager, Ashley Donald, says the event aims to make over
100 bags, with 65 for donation, and the rest sold to raise money
for the Salvation Army.
‘Totes for Tots’ is kindly supported by QUT Creative Industries,
The Salvation Army, and State Library of Queensland.

11. The Stitchery Collective is a Brisbane based initiative run by a group of
fashion practitioners, academics and best buds.We share a common
feeling that fashion can be joyous, meaningful, accountable, beautiful
and sustainable all at once. Our collaboratively designed pattern
collections challenge the standard fashion concept of the separation
between fashion and the consumer, exploring how fashion can
engage with you, and how you can engage with fashion - but always
with the same ethos – connecting joyfully through clothes.
The Stitchery Collective-KiaraBulley & AnnaHickey
As part of a creative collaboration by Elisa Jane Carmichael and Carla
van Lunn, vibrant hand painted fabrics have been used to create
elegant easy fit pieces. Trimmings featured on the garments were
made from recycled rope fibres. This collection is for the wild and
bold!

The Akin Collection is the first
Australian fashion brand to be
created as a collaboration between
equally recognised Indigenous artists
and emerging fashion designers. Akin is
the outcome of a project to lead, guide and
curate a luxury, retail-ready fashion collection
from a collaboration between five emerging fashion
designers and five established Indigenous artists. This
collection seeks to create an equitable and profitable
fashion collection under one brand where all artists and
designers receive equal payment, equal promotion/credibility,
as well as equal royalties for any garments ordered by retailers

12. One of Seven - Maria Luu
Grammar - Kathryn Walsh
Grammar is a Brisbane-based label by QUT
Fashion student Kathryn Walsh. Characterised
by an off-kilter attitude, the label focuses on
attention to detail and infuses wardrobe staples
with unexpected creativity. Made in Brisbane
from hand-chosen fabrics, pieces are designed
to last and are complemented by personalised
repair services to extend the garment lifecycle.
One of seven is a Brisbane based clothing
label established by final year QUT Fashion
and Business student Maria Luu. Her aim
is to counteract the effects of fast fashion by
offering clothes with a point of difference.
This comes from referencing luxury and craft
simultaneously. Drawing from her obsession
with polka dots, each individual garment
focuses on detail and luxury through
construction with clean lines, classic
silhouettes and play on proportions.

Designed and made by second
year student Kaydee Fallon; the
label Kaydee Rose is inspired by
hand crafts, flowers and romantic
colours.

13. Thomas Emmett is a young Australian sculptor, design writer
and industrial designer. After studying Art and Design at Central
Saint Martins for a year, he returned to Brisbane to complete
studying Industrial Design at QUT. For Thomas, sculpture allows
him to communicate and articulate his feelings and emotions.
The overarching themes of love, beauty and mundanity resonate
through his pieces as he explores form and its relation the viewer.
Earlier this year he was a part of Redsea Gallery’s inaugural Young
Blood exhibition.

Amelia K. Fulton Art - Amelia Fulton
Amelia Fulton is a QUT Mass Communication student and aspiring
artist. She has had numerous works exhibited, the most recent being
through RAW Artists. Amelia predominantly uses a technique called
Pointillism or Stippling to create images using only tiny dots. These
works take hours of labour to achieve a highly realistic final image. She
also creates simple line drawings with water colour and is looking at
expanding her chosen mediums. Amelia’s high quality artist’s prints
are available for sale, and she will also accept commissions.

Made by Chelly is a Brisbane based brand created by QUT Business
and Fashion student Chelsea Kier. She provides unique and eccentric
clothing for those who don’t take themselves too seriously, inspired
by functionality in fashion, textiles, texture, street style, mood, the
past, presentand future.

14. Nhu - Nhu Chau
Nhu is a bold jewellery label, designed and handcrafted
by QUT Fashion Design student Nhu Chau.
Cielle - Cielle Marchal
Established in 2014, Cielle is an independent Brisbane
based designer driven by the desire to create modern
and wearable clothing through layered, simple and
quirky designs. Garments designed for The Fleet Store
consist of interchangeable pieces which can be layered
to create a creative shopping experience. Each wearer
has the ability to choose a variety of colours and shapes
to match their personal taste and budget.
O-Shan is a label created by second year QUT Fashion student,
Shannon Lewis. The label and it’s creations combines a love of colour
and design for multi-function and draws inspiration from the sea.

15. Gail Sorronda, a label created by Brisbane fashion designer and
QUT alumni Gail Reid, boasts a unique style that is both edgy and
feminine. Gail Sorronda designs have developed a huge fashion
following on a local and international scale. Her creations have
attracted the likes of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Gabbana was quoted in the The Wall Street Journal saying “I love
Gail Sorronda, It’s my taste”. Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld also named Gail
Sorronda “one to watch”.

Exuding youth, but with a mature appreciation for silhouette and
shape, Brisbane label Soot was founded in 2011 by young designer
Edwina Sinclair, while she studied fashion at QUT. Drawing
inspirations from her environment, Sinclair strives to create
garments that incorporate luxury and texture and form with a
touch of irreverence and humour.
All clothing is designed and made in Brisbane, Australia.

Jewellery Designer Tilly Sinclair studied silversmithing at the
Brisbane Institute of Art. All Tilly Jewellery fine silver pieces are hand
made in her studio located in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

16. Currently wading through the penultimate year of a Bachelor of
Fine Arts (Fashion Design), Jolie Chatfield has a passion for textiles,
history and unique design. Her collection for The Fleet Store acts
as an amalgamation of these passions, offering a youthful take on
summer in the city.

“Eerste” means first in Afrikaans. It symbolises my first collection
for my new brand: Maritha Appel. Currently I am studying fashion
design and international business at QUT. My inspiration comes
from South Africa as I recently returned from a trip there and was
also born there; hence the title for my collection. The jewelry in
particular are inspired by native South African art. In the future I
hope to further establish my own brand as I continue on the journey
of constantly learning and developing!
Eerste - Maritha Appel
This is the beginnings of the label SEAL - IYE - AE from second
year BFA student Celia Cox. The foundation of SEAL - IYE - AE takes
inspiration from aerial views of the Australian outback and dated,
tropically themed motel decor.

17. Emma Tothill established ‘Tothill the label’ in 2015. The Brisbane
based designer produces a contemporary, neutral and minimal
aesthetic. Emma’s versatile aesthetic allows designs to be worn for
many occasions with a diverse range of styles.

ChaCha the Label is a Brisbane based collaboration between Ellen
Chandler and Louise Chaney. With a vision for uniqueness, ChaCha
aims to provide contemporary, original designs and accessories.
