Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure in
Govt. College Women University, Sialkot
Introduction
The ICT infrastructure designed properly provides a framework for maximizing the effectiveness
of IT resources and limited budgets. As, GCWUS has built an ICT infrastructure now, so it is
important to plan a strategy to best use this ICT infrastructure in which students have the facility
of accessing the Digital Library and Internet provided by Pakistan Education Research Network
(PERN).

In the evolutionary era of technology, ICT is playing a very vital role in educational institutes.

The mission is to provide a secure, flexible, available and fully featured technological
environment that is accessible to all staff members and students with all advanced services, and
to recognize ICT as an innovative playing a vital role in the development of a digital University
campus.
Objective
Our objective is to study the ICT infrastructure of GCWU, in order to recognize the strengths
and flaws and then adapt best methods to utilize resources properly.

As steps are taken in order to enhance the ICT services, following steps may be taken in future
Campus network must supporting high speed LAN and wireless services
DNS services and IP address management
E-mail management and spam filtering
Virtual Learning Environment to learn new things and technologies
Training courses for IT support staff
Help desk to guide Non-IT Faculty and students
Recommendations
Hire professional staff that handles the ICT and trains the IT Faculty
Engage with technological partners like Microsoft by accepting Agreements and Licenses
to avail advanced features
Suggestions
Assign E-mail addresses to all Faculty members and students so that they may be able to
use the digital library
Conduct Video conferencing and other interactive workshops in University to aware
students of new technologies
Provide internship opportunities in IT , so that students may become interested in
implementing ICT and seeking something new
Provide Internet facilities to all over the University not only in IT Department
Use optical fibers to connect with Internet for a higher speed
Implement Virtual Private Networks (VPN) for a secure connection
