Personal Statement
I am currently working as an assistant lecturer at the University of Zakho/ School of Humanities/
Department of English language and literature studies. This offers me the opportunity to develop
new skills in teaching and learning while strengthening those I already possess. I am a
Humanities postgraduate with TESOL and Second Language Learning experience. My main
strengths are Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, First Language Acquisition,
Second Language Learning and Designing and Evaluating Teaching Materials.

MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) / University of
Huddersfield/ UK (27th September 2011- 6th October 2012).
BA in English language and literature studies/ University of Duhok (1st September
2004- 6th July 2009).
A certificate in Computer Proficiency Program (CPP) / University of Duhok (June 2010-
September 2010).
A certificate in Advanced English Language Program (AELP) IELTS focused / Kirklees
College/ UK (15 March 2011- 15 September 2011).

Zakho.
2. International high school English teacher/ Vajin school/ Zakho-Duhok/ Kurdistan region-
Iraq (2010-2011).
Teaching English skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing in the English Literacy
and Proficiency Courses in the Training and Development Centre/ University of Zakho
(2009- present time).
Teaching English to other academic departments; Psychology, Arabic etc.. (2010-2011)
at the University of Zakho.
Worked as a translator with the coalition forces (2003-2005) in Mosul.
Held many debates in the Department of English language at the University of Zakho
and Mosul (2004 in Mosul) and (2009-2011 in Zakho).
Worked with Patrick Woodcock, a Canadian poet and writer, in teaching English (2010-
2011) at the University of Zakho.
Worked in administrative position/ English Department Secretary (18th October 2009 to
10th March 2011) and manager assistant at Training and Development Centre (18th
October 2009 to 10th March 2011) at the University of Zakho.
Professional in proofreading course work, assignments, publishing articles, MA
dissertations and PhD theses (have been doing this since 2009).
Acted as a guide and translator with university delegations at the University of Zakho.
Participated in IREX series of workshops in Erbil January 6-7, 2014 and March 11-14,
2014.
A member of the scientific committee of the Department of English language/University
of Zakho (1/10/2014-present time).
Research interests
My research interests are: teaching and learning English, TEFL, TESOL, ELT
methodologies, language acquisition and learning, and materials evaluation, editing, and
development.
