Try to answer these problems!
Directions: Identify the base, rate, and percentage.
Given Base Rate Percentage
1. 20% of 60 is 12
2. 12% of 150 is 18
3. 25% of 200 is 50
4. 60% of 30 is 18
5. 90% of 50 is 45

Directions: Let’s read and answer the problem below and identify the base,
rate and percentage.
Example 1
The total enrolment in Malaca Elementary School is 300 pupils, of these, 54
were enrolled in kinder which is 18% of the total enrolment.
18% is 18 out of 100 and it is n out of 300.
Write the correct proportion, then find the value of the missing term.
n out of 300 = 18 out of 100
n:300 = 18:100
The proportion could also be written as:
𝑛
300
=
18
100
By the cross product rule:
100 × n = 300 × 18
100n = 5400
100n(
1
100
) = 5400(
1
100
) Multiply both sides of the equation by
the multiplicative inverse or
reciprocal of 100
n = 54 Do the operation involved
From the problem above, we have learned that 18% of 300 is 34.
18% is the Rate (the expression with % symbol)
54 is the Percentage (part of the whole)
300 is the Base (whole or total)
Remember these three important words that help us in solving problems
about percents:
1. Base represents the whole. It is the total number from which a percent is
taken.
2. Percentage is a part of a whole. It is the result of finding a certain percent of
a number.
3. Rate is the number indicating how many percent or hundredths are taken.
In solving word problems, we need to follow the following steps.

  • 5. f Discover Jian earned P100 for selling junk. He gave his mother P 80 and put P20 in his coin bank. What percent of his earnings did he give to his mother? What percent did he save? Let us draw the model. 80% There are 100 parts in al. the shaded part is 80 of 100 parts. Jian gave 80% of his earning to his mother and saved 20% of it. Let us study these; The relation of percent to fraction 80% is equal to 100 80 or 100 80 ÷ 20 20 = 5 4 The relationship of fraction to decimal. Divide the numerator by the denominator. 0.80 5 00 . 4 4 0 0 0 0 Another way: 80% = 100 80 ÷ 20 20 = 5 4
  • 6. To change percent to decimal move the decimal point 2 places to the left and drop the % sign. 80% = 0.80 B. Compare the shaded part in each grid. 100 25 25:100 0.25 25% Fraction Ratio Decimal Percent Study these. 4 1 = 4 1 x 25 25 = 100 25 ’ so 4 1 = 100 25 = 0.25 = 25% 5 2 = 5 2 x 20 20 = 100 40 , so 5 2 = 100 40 = 0.40 = 40% To change from percent to fraction, change percent to fraction with a denominator of 100, and then simplify it. To change percent to decimal, drop the % symbol and move the decimal point 2 places to the left. To change decimal to percent, simply move the decimal point 2 places to the right, then affix the symbol % to the number.

  • 10. Discover Directions: Let’s read and answer the problem below and identify the base, rate and percentage. Example 1 The total enrolment in Malaca Elementary School is 300 pupils, of these, 54 were enrolled in kinder which is 18% of the total enrolment. 18% is 18 out of 100 and it is n out of 300. Write the correct proportion, then find the value of the missing term. n out of 300 = 18 out of 100 n:300 = 18:100 The proportion could also be written as: 𝑛 300 = 18 100 By the cross product rule: 100 × n = 300 × 18 100n = 5400 100n( 1 100 ) = 5400( 1 100 ) Multiply both sides of the equation by the multiplicative inverse or reciprocal of 100 n = 54 Do the operation involved From the problem above, we have learned that 18% of 300 is 34. 18% is the Rate (the expression with % symbol) 54 is the Percentage (part of the whole) 300 is the Base (whole or total) Remember these three important words that help us in solving problems about percents: 1. Base represents the whole. It is the total number from which a percent is taken. 2. Percentage is a part of a whole. It is the result of finding a certain percent of a number. 3. Rate is the number indicating how many percent or hundredths are taken. In solving word problems, we need to follow the following steps.
