1. Question 1: In what ways does your
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
2. The title of the video, Mad world, is
conceptual and doesn’t make sense therefore
alternative genre.
The fonts used on the titles of my ancillaries,
are a type of scratchy maker pen. This
reinforces the alternative genre as well as the
conceptual style of the video. The font style
derives from animation in video.
Similar to the greenday/ 21st century
breakdown magazine cover. The negative
portrayal of world in are video stereotypically
denotes the rock genre.
3. The setting of the park is
childlike which is not
conventional to moody
stereotypes of rock.
This breaks the conventions
of rock music set by
Nickleback's 'dark horse' CD
cover, which i studied for my
product research.
I used a grey filter that was
influenced by Nickleback to
create this convention/
prevent confusion between
light-hearted pop and rock
genres.
This creates an narrative
enigma of, why’s he there? Is
he childish? Has something
bad happened to a child/ him
as a child?
4. The animation in the video follows the style of gotye. This is quite conceptual as it is
unconventional to rock, however it follows alternative stereotypes. The use of dissolves
allow the animation and performance in the video fit to the music.
The animation breaks up live action to make more interesting and conceptual video.
I used same images from the video on my ancillaries to create synergy between them
,this is so the audience can identify with the video.
The main character is introduced through animation, this suggests that the animation is
his imagination.
The skinny jeans, leather jacket and flat cap are conventional to rock genre. The flat cap
emphasises on the soft rock genre.
Dark jacket is similar to nickleback’s costumes, the darkness continues across my video
and ancillaries this creates synergy.
5. The Dissolves create a dreamlike effect this then helps to
match the slow pace of the song. This was influenced by the
slow edits in I see fire.
The dark filter applied was influenced by nickleback and
helped to create the mood rock look.
The animation in the video was inspired by gotye this allowed
me highlight the childlike feel we wanted in the video.
