A little girl named loses her mother and is devastated. Her only comfort is her ragged doll, Lucille. One day while out with her father, they meet Chrissie, a waitress who offers to mend Lucille. Chrissie eventually comes to live with the girl and her father, filling the role of mother figure. She comforts the girl during storms and helps mend her emotional pain just as she mended Lucille physically.
