Subject – ways to promote more tourism in our city.
Sir,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I came an article regarding the steady decline in
our city tourism revenue in you esteemed newspaper dated 2nd July. In this regard, I would like to
point out the dismal state of all approach roads, erratic
train and air service of our city.
For any place that attractive to the tourists, accessibility plays a crucial role of late the city
authorities have also been neglecting the upkeep of its lodge, guest houses and hostels. A
clean, well-maintained and affordable place to stay is the most essential part of tourism. Lastly,
a clean and beautiful city with its spec and span tourist attraction became more attracted to a
tourist. By paying attention to these problems, I am sure wonders can be done to increase the
tourist revenue of our city.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Sub: Importance of National Integration.
Dear sir,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I write to you to express my concern over the issue of
national integration in our country. Ours is a country inhabited by people belonging to different religions,
ethnicities, faiths, and creeds. Maintaining communal peace, camaraderie, etc. become quite challenging
and formidable.
The Indian Government along with the people, must formulate a nationalistic policy aimed at
promoting national integration and harmony, and implement this policy strictly. Education
policy, foreign policy, and all the other policies must aim at promoting national interest. Nation
must be supreme; all the rest must be subservient to it.
Any person or element that harms or undermines national integration must be strictly dealt
with. Schools can play a great role. The children must be repeatedly told how our freedom
fighters belonging to different faiths, religions, ethnicities, creeds, etc. fought together and
won freedom for our country. Media can play a very crucial role in this regard. People must
join in this national integration campaign. I appeal to the concerned authorities to look into the
issue. I am sure you will give suitable place to my views in the columns of your esteemed
daily.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Subject – The challenges of communal harmony facing India.
Dear sir,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I shall feel greatly obliged if you publish my
views on the challenge of communal harmony facing our country today, in your esteemed paper.
The achievement of communal harmony is really a big challenge before us today. Communal riots
breaking out in different parts of the country at different times on frivolous pretexts are a cause of great
concern. They not only involve a huge loss to life and properly but also sow permanent seeds of scorn
and hatred between groups of people for all times to come. The government must, therefore, come
down heavily on such elements as create unrest amongst the people. While those who have suffered
should be compensated well, heavy punishments should be given those who are responsible for the
riots.
All religious processions should be banned and religious places should be freed of all undesirable
elements residing inside. Use of microphone in religious meet should be disallowed and nobody
should be allowed to mix politics with religion. The entire media should be geared to educate people
and to expose the evil design of the mischief makers. The neighboring countries trying to foment and
encourage trouble in this country should be given a stern warning. Out textbooks in schools and
colleges should also be rewritten to make our teaching truly national, secular and patriotic.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

National Integration
Jagdish.m
India is a land of various races; various religious and various languages. Still then, the
Indians developed into one nation by the influence of common territory, common history and
common fight for freedom against the foreign rule.
But when India came under the British, the English ruler followed the policy of Divide and
Rule in order to perpetuate their authority over India. Consequently the racial, the religious
and the linguistic groups in the Indian nation first began to disintegrate emotionally and
psychologically and then desired to disintegrate territorially. This resulted into division of
India into Bharat and Pakistan. India the integrity of the Indian nation is awfully threatened as
the communal quarrels are fanned by the hostile neighbors of India. Hence, the necessity of
strong national Integration in India has become so urgent at present.
There are, in India, various religious communities, such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians,
Buddhists, Jains and Parses. Each community should appreciate every other community. Each
community should love every other community, respect the prophets of every other community. Each
community should observe the great days of every other community. Each community should help and
share the religious festivals of every other community. A religious community should avoid doing any
such thing which is a taboo for any other religious community.
There are in India, various linguistic groups speaking different languages, such as Hindi, Urdu,
Bengali, Oriya, Assamee, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and so on. Each linguistic group should respect
the language of every other linguistic group. Every Indian student should be given full facility to learn
through his own language wherever he is in India.
National integration in India is a crying need of the day. The Government of our country has founded
the Council of National Integration. It is hoped that the people of India will co-operate with it in all its
programmes.
Importance of National Integration
Jagdish.m
National integration means combing all the people of the nation into a single whole. It is a particular
sentiment that binds together all people in one common bond no matter what their religion, language or
history be.
It is strong cementing force whereby all kinds of people live together peacefully and can identify themselves
as a part of a single whole. We belong to India. India is our’s is the feeling which constitutes the very basis of
national integration. India is a vast country with a vast population. If we get united, this great human force
with great resources of the country can carry the whole world with us.
The worst tragedy that has devoured up India is complete national disintegration. It appears that India is not
a nation, but simply a crowd of separate individuals each differing fro the other, yet living together. The
history of India presents a very poor record of national integration. Disunity is a very old evil. In the pages of
history, we find innumerable instances to show that we suffered indignities and humiliations because of our
disunity. Even at the time of national crisis the whole country could not pull together and the result was
defeat the subjugation. We know that a few thousands of Mughal soldiers conquered India, because the
native rulers could not unite together, rather they worked against each-other and helped the enemy. The
Rajputs, the Jats, the Marathas and the Sikhs all were brave people beyond doubt, but they could not sit
together. They fought separately and were defeated one-by-one.
The British regime in India made the first attempt at the unification of the whole country, however
superficial. The English education, dress and habits brought down the some extent the cultural
difference. Indians for the first time began to feel a kind of bond among themselves. Another bond which
bounded the people was the subjugation under the British. The bond became very prominent towards
the closing year of the British rule in India. Indians at the time were fired with the spirit of nationality. The
national leaders coming fro different states were so much fused that they forgot all the petty differences
of caste, creed and language that divided them.
But as soon the British left India, trivial issue began to raise their ugly heads. Every state turned to itself
and tried to look to the interest of its own. New slogans were raised and the spirit of fellow feeling and
co-operation was substituted by forces that began to play and interplay. The result was that within a very
short time after independence the different regions began to show off their supremacy over others. The
disruptive problems of linguist created series cleavage between the two sections of the people of one
state. The shameful happenings in Assam over Bengali, Assam controversy and the illegal demand of
Khalistan by Akali proved beyond doubt that we have not been able to realize the very fundamental ideal
of national integration. The division of the Punjab over the language issue to a large extent impaired the
national unity. A part from this the caste rivalries assumed a dreadful proportions.
Though today India is a free country, yet that spirit of unity appears to have evaporated which had made people
think that they are one family and one nation. The crying need of the hour is national integration for a developing
country like India. We Indians cannot afford to be parochial, narrow-minded, provincial and communal because we
have a great mission to accomplish. Keeping our feet firmly on the ground we should bring about the integration of
the Indian people. Political integration has already taken place, but emotional integration is a must for national
integration. Political freedom has brought in its wake new forces of fanaticism which threaten to destroy the noble
concept of one country and one people. Attachment to caste and community is given priority over devotion to the
motherland. Regionalism is raising its ugly head.
There are several obstacles in the way of national integration of our country. The most formidable obstacles are
linguism, communalism and regionalism. India is a multi-lingual country. The language controversy started with
Hindi being given the place of official language of India. In South India people revolted against this and demanded
secession from India. The constitution has been amended to meet the demand of these people. In the Indian Union
the states have been organized on the linguistic basis. The question of language is a sensitive one. People get
very easily provoked over this issue. The linguistic fanaticism has got to be fought with love, understanding and
accommodation. Communalism is an another obstacle. There have been communal riots in the country before and
even after the partition. This is a poison deeply rooted in our polity. India cannot succeed in forging any unity, if
communalism continues. Casteism is an offshoot of communalism which is equally dangerous to national
integration. Another fissiparous tendency is regionalism. Aggressive regionalism has gravely underminded the
feeling that the whole of India is the home land of her inhabitants. Regionalism creates parochial outlook and
narrow mindedness.
It is beyond doubt that the threats of disintegration are staring us in the face. If we Indian keep on remaining
disunited in the name of religion, community or language, the country will go to dogs. If we do not sink petty
differences our freedom is in peril. Divisions on the basis of language or community will have serious
repercussions. We must realize that we have the strong bond of same cultural heritage and must not let
ourselves fall apart and disintegrate. We must show to the world that a country with as old a tradition as
ours can holds back personal differences for the sake of higher interest of the country. Toleration, co-
operation and feeling of brotherhood should guide us in maintaining the national unity of our country. Let us
echo what Pandit Nehru said, “There is no division between North and South, East and West of India. There
is only one India of which all us are inheritors, it belongs to all of us.”
Speech writing
2. You have lately read the account of many cases of violent behavior by school children. Some
instances have been quite injurious and harmful to the victims. You are shocked by these accounts
and decide to share your views with your schoolmates. Prepare a speech for the morning assembly on
the topic ‘Growing violence in children: Causes and cures’.
Ans-
Honorable principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, today I am standing before you to share
my views on the growing violence among children these days, which is proving to be rather detrimental
to the children’s progress.
Lack of an appropriate environment and good parental care, and pressure of peers are some of the
factors that are responsible for giving rise to negative emotions in children. Feelings of neglect and
immense pressure cause anger and dissatisfaction in these youngsters. The growing exposure to
crime films and thrillers too raises the levels of aggression in them. Moreover, the rush of consumerism
has aroused a child’s desire to possess whatever he sees in the advertisements on the television. And
in case of non-fulfillment of these desires and wants, there is cause for resentment and frustration.
Television shows like WWF and violent scenes in movies etc. lead the innocent children to imitate
them. The negative characters in movies become their role models whom they want to ape in order to
appear ‘cool’.
Parents, teachers and social reformers should inculcate the right values in children through
persuasion and instruction. Being the torch-beaness of the future, children need to be guided
well and shown the correct path in life. Let us hope for a better future with the children of
today becoming sensible and sensitive citizens of tomorrow.
Thank you.
2. Write a speech in about 150–200 words on ‘Environmental Pollution’, which you have to
deliver during the morning assembly in your school.
Ans-
Respected principal and teachers and my dear friends, Today I am standing before you to
speak on the topic ‘Environmental Pollution’, which is a serious problem that the whole world
is facing today.
The tremendous increase in population is the root cause of all kinds of pollution. More people
on this earth means more waste material being created. Another factor is the advancement in
science and technology. It has made our lives very comfortable but has also given rise to a
variety of problems that are harming the environment. 3 Pollution comes in various forms. Air
pollution is caused by the smoke from factories, the exhaust fumes from vehicles and the
burning of garbage containing chemical materials. Water pollution is caused when toxic
waste materials are disposed off into seas and rivers. Soil pollution is again the result of
incorrect methods of waste disposal. Radioactive waves from electronic objects and
nonbiodegradable material like plastics also contaminate the air and the soil.
With modernization, we have reached a stage where the enormous noise caused by
industrial and transport activities has become a health hazard. Even though it may not be
possible for mankind to eliminate environmental pollution totally, the hazards can be
minimized by adopting alternate methods and following certain rules. We must remember
that by protecting the environment, we are protecting ourselves.
Thank you.
3. Are you bewildered by the speech assignment you’ve recently received? Don’t worry, even if you have no
idea about what to write in your speech, we can help you find your motivation and a perfect topic. Check out
this sample inspirational speech about setting your goals in life and dreaming big.
Ans-
Honorable principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, today I am standing before you to share my
views. The main goal of this speech is to give you perspective on the other way of thinking and seeing the
world, and inspire you to find your own values to live by. I have an important question for you, and I bet you
have dedicated your fair share of thought to it throughout the course of your lives – which way of thinking is
better, dreaming big or being satisfied with small things? Since I held the first belief my whole life, I believe I
am qualified enough to talk about why it can be even more harmful than being unambitious.
My whole life I thought I was gonna be huge. Not just your typical A-student type huge, but world-famous
huge. I probably had some predisposition to think so, because I was a fairly talented kid and did really well
at school, constantly scoring at the top of the class. Over time, however, my motivation turned into
something unhealthy. I started to believe that I was entitled to success, and I grew more and more frustrated
as I faced the real world. Well, the truth is I didn’t face it a lot until going to university and leaving my
hometown, where I had lived in a safe bubble believing that success in the big city is waiting for me to
come. The first ominous sign came when I didn’t get a perfect score at the entrance exams. I still scored
really well – 195 out of 200, and got into the
university, but I wasn’t the first one anymore. Which seems pretty logical now – there were thousands and
thousands of kids applying to the same university – but back then I felt that I was missing something. I
couldn’t enjoy my triumph because I didn’t get that perfect score. The pitfall, however, came almost three
years later when I first got a B on a history exam, a subject I absolutely hated. Then I started to feel like a
failure. Now you are probably wondering, “What does it have to do with dreaming big?” Here’s my answer: I
always dreamed big, and this made me overlook tiny successes and feel entitled for admiration and victory.
I believe you can guess what happened next. I grew more and more frustrated, as I realized you had to
work, and most often, work hard, to achieve what you wanted. You even had to withstand failure and
rejection – something I wasn’t used to dealing with at all. The only opinion I had about failures is that they
diminished my previous accomplishments and my value as a person, and that successful people never fail
and never have to deal with the pain of rejection. Dreaming big is good, as it helps a person set far-
reaching goals and do bold things. But it can only work if a person has healthy relationships with failure,
tryouts and taking tiny steps. The success that seemingly comes overnight takes years to achieve, but no
one wants to mention those years – they are a boring time of exhausting, plain and continuous hard work.
Sounds bad enough for a movie, right? Don’t teach anyone just to dream big – teach them to dream big
while taking small steps. This is always better than staying in one place and wishing to be teleported to the
valley of success.
Thank you!
4. Importance of Education Speech.
Good morning to the Excellences, my respected teachers and my dear friends. As we have
gathered here to celebrate this special occasion, I would like to speech over the importance
of education. Good and proper education plays a great role in shaping our future and
professional career. It helps us to develop personality and earn recognition and respect in
the family and society. We can say that education is socially and personally an essential
part of the human life. We cannot ignore the importance of education in our life at any cost.
As we see daily in the society lots of social issues just because of the lack of proper
education. Social issues like inequality, gender discrimination, religious differences and so
many problems are there because of the lack of education in our life. Proper education
helps us to maintain the personal and social standards in daily life.
In such a modern, technological and competitive world, there is still the issue of education
among poor and uneducated people of the society which needs to be solved as soon as
possible. Education is the key to solve all the social, personal and professional problems of
the people. Proper and higher education makes us more civilized to live in the society. One
cannot make his/her good image in the society and live prosperous and happy life without
getting appropriate education. It makes us able to maintain the healthy surroundings. Now-
a-days, unlike ancient time,
getting proper education has become easy and simple because of the online system and
correspondence facility in all the big universities. It has made education system easy
because of which poor people can also get education in their own field of choice. There are
many huge efforts and plan strategies by the government to maintain the quality of education
all over the India.
Education helps us to be healthy, save many lives, boosts economic growth, earn money,
raise quality crop, promote peace in the society, eradicate poverty, remove gender
discrimination and inequality, promote women and children rights, bring good governance,
remove corruption, make aware about fundamental rights and so many. Good education
does not mean to study hard and get good results however it is to conquer new things for the
betterment of whole mankind.
Thank You

It had been over two hours waiting for the train. Ruhi was getting restless. Suddenly she noticed a child begging at
the platform. He appeared to be a little, sweet boy who had a small bag on his shoulder. She noticed a book in his
bag. Ruhi was eager to know where the child lived. There was still more than an hour left for her train to arrive. So,
she got up and started following him. The boy moved out of the station and entered a slum nearby. He got into a
house which appeared to be a very dirty and unhygienic place. There were other child beggars in the house who
were in the age group of 5 — 12 years. They were thin and weak.
They had money but nothing to eat. Just then, a burly man entered the house. The children became quiet. He
asked them for the money that they had collected by begging. The poor children handed all the money they had to
him. Ruhi understood that it was a racket of child beggars. She felt pity for those small children. She decided to
inform the police. The police and an NGO 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan' soon reached the place. The man was
perplexed on seeing the police. The police arrested him and the children were sent under the protection of the
NGO from where they would be sent to their homes. Ruhi felt relieved and was appreciated by everyone. She was
later rewarded by the government for her effort in rescuing the children.

Last Sunday, I was watching TV. Suddenly I heard people shouting
outside.............
Answer-
A Spaceship on Earth
Last Sunday, I was watching TV. Suddenly I heard people shouting outside. It was about 10:30 p.m. As I opened
my door, bright lights from outside dazzled my eyes. I went outside towards the place where a large crowd had
gathered outside our colony park. There was a huge spaceship that had landed in the park. It had a thousand
lights blinking and from the windows, one could see few strange figures peeping out. I was surprised to see the
aliens. Meanwhile, the police had also reached the park. People were shouting and asking the police to take the
aliens out of the ship. They were very excited to see them. By this time, few scientists and researchers had also
reached the spot. They had brought some instruments along with them.
As they started moving towards the spaceship, the sirens that were installed in it started blowing. We could notice
the strange figures hurriedly moving inside the spaceship. Then, as if understanding the intentions of the scientists
that they probably wanted to capture them, they started blowing green-colored dust from their spaceship. Its
wheels started moving like a blower and the spaceship started
moving upwards. The scientists rushed out of the park. People tried to click pictures of the spaceship but their
cameras showed only a black screen. The spaceship safely moved out of the hands of the humans who would
have otherwise captured the aliens and started a study on them. I thanked God for saving their lives from the
clutches of the inhuman humans.

Answer-
A Great Lesson
It was 6 o'clock in the evening and there was a lot of traffic on the road. Mohan was driving his car when suddenly
two teenagers on bike overtook his car and laughing, they drove on. Mohan applied the brakes of his car in the nick
of time. He was very angry but since he was getting late for an important meeting at his office, he ignored the bike
riders and drove ahead. He hadn't gone too far when he heard a loud crash. A bike had crashed on the divider of the
road. The driver probably lost his balance. Mohan got out of his car quickly and rushed towards the accident. He
could see the faces of the victims. They were the same teenagers who had overtaken his car.
They both went were without helmets and were bleeding profusely. Mohan wasted no time. With the help of some
passers-by, he picked them up and immediately took them to a hospital in his car. He informed their family members
using one of the boys' mobile. The timely treatment saved the lives of the boys who were ashamed of their act after
meeting Mohan. Mohan forgave them and advised them to follow traffic rules as they are meant for people's safety.
They promised not to drive till they were eighteen.

People from upper class Indian society generally like to spend holidays in London, New York or other swish countries however people from middle class society always enjoy tourists destinations in their own country. Our country is highly targeted as the tourist place by the people all over the world in spite of many problems that’s why travel and tourism in India needs to be promoted more.

  • 32. Letter to Editor 1. Write a letter to editor of newspaper on importance of national integration. Ans- Flat no.203, Kondhawa Dhawade, Pune-23 Date- 06, December, 2017 The Editor, The Times Of India’ Delhi. Sub: Importance of National Integration. Dear sir, Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I write to you to express my concern over the issue of national integration in our country. Ours is a country inhabited by people belonging to different religions, ethnicities, faiths, and creeds. Maintaining communal peace, camaraderie, etc. become quite challenging and formidable.
  • 33. The Indian Government along with the people, must formulate a nationalistic policy aimed at promoting national integration and harmony, and implement this policy strictly. Education policy, foreign policy, and all the other policies must aim at promoting national interest. Nation must be supreme; all the rest must be subservient to it. Any person or element that harms or undermines national integration must be strictly dealt with. Schools can play a great role. The children must be repeatedly told how our freedom fighters belonging to different faiths, religions, ethnicities, creeds, etc. fought together and won freedom for our country. Media can play a very crucial role in this regard. People must join in this national integration campaign. I appeal to the concerned authorities to look into the issue. I am sure you will give suitable place to my views in the columns of your esteemed daily. Thanking you Yours sincerely Jagdish.M
  • 34. 2. Write a letter to the Editor of a newspaper expressing your views on the challenge of Communal harmony facing India. Ans- Flat no.203, Kondhawa Dhawade, Pune-23 Date- 06, December, 2017 The Editor, The Times Of India’ Delhi. Subject – The challenges of communal harmony facing India. Dear sir, Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I shall feel greatly obliged if you publish my views on the challenge of communal harmony facing our country today, in your esteemed paper.
  • 35. The achievement of communal harmony is really a big challenge before us today. Communal riots breaking out in different parts of the country at different times on frivolous pretexts are a cause of great concern. They not only involve a huge loss to life and properly but also sow permanent seeds of scorn and hatred between groups of people for all times to come. The government must, therefore, come down heavily on such elements as create unrest amongst the people. While those who have suffered should be compensated well, heavy punishments should be given those who are responsible for the riots. All religious processions should be banned and religious places should be freed of all undesirable elements residing inside. Use of microphone in religious meet should be disallowed and nobody should be allowed to mix politics with religion. The entire media should be geared to educate people and to expose the evil design of the mischief makers. The neighboring countries trying to foment and encourage trouble in this country should be given a stern warning. Out textbooks in schools and colleges should also be rewritten to make our teaching truly national, secular and patriotic. Thanking you Yours sincerely Jagdish.M
  • 36. Articles National Integration Jagdish.m India is a land of various races; various religious and various languages. Still then, the Indians developed into one nation by the influence of common territory, common history and common fight for freedom against the foreign rule. But when India came under the British, the English ruler followed the policy of Divide and Rule in order to perpetuate their authority over India. Consequently the racial, the religious and the linguistic groups in the Indian nation first began to disintegrate emotionally and psychologically and then desired to disintegrate territorially. This resulted into division of India into Bharat and Pakistan. India the integrity of the Indian nation is awfully threatened as the communal quarrels are fanned by the hostile neighbors of India. Hence, the necessity of strong national Integration in India has become so urgent at present.
  • 37. There are, in India, various religious communities, such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Parses. Each community should appreciate every other community. Each community should love every other community, respect the prophets of every other community. Each community should observe the great days of every other community. Each community should help and share the religious festivals of every other community. A religious community should avoid doing any such thing which is a taboo for any other religious community. There are in India, various linguistic groups speaking different languages, such as Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Oriya, Assamee, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and so on. Each linguistic group should respect the language of every other linguistic group. Every Indian student should be given full facility to learn through his own language wherever he is in India. National integration in India is a crying need of the day. The Government of our country has founded the Council of National Integration. It is hoped that the people of India will co-operate with it in all its programmes.
  • 38. Importance of National Integration Jagdish.m National integration means combing all the people of the nation into a single whole. It is a particular sentiment that binds together all people in one common bond no matter what their religion, language or history be. It is strong cementing force whereby all kinds of people live together peacefully and can identify themselves as a part of a single whole. We belong to India. India is our’s is the feeling which constitutes the very basis of national integration. India is a vast country with a vast population. If we get united, this great human force with great resources of the country can carry the whole world with us. The worst tragedy that has devoured up India is complete national disintegration. It appears that India is not a nation, but simply a crowd of separate individuals each differing fro the other, yet living together. The history of India presents a very poor record of national integration. Disunity is a very old evil. In the pages of history, we find innumerable instances to show that we suffered indignities and humiliations because of our disunity. Even at the time of national crisis the whole country could not pull together and the result was defeat the subjugation. We know that a few thousands of Mughal soldiers conquered India, because the native rulers could not unite together, rather they worked against each-other and helped the enemy. The Rajputs, the Jats, the Marathas and the Sikhs all were brave people beyond doubt, but they could not sit together. They fought separately and were defeated one-by-one.
  • 39. The British regime in India made the first attempt at the unification of the whole country, however superficial. The English education, dress and habits brought down the some extent the cultural difference. Indians for the first time began to feel a kind of bond among themselves. Another bond which bounded the people was the subjugation under the British. The bond became very prominent towards the closing year of the British rule in India. Indians at the time were fired with the spirit of nationality. The national leaders coming fro different states were so much fused that they forgot all the petty differences of caste, creed and language that divided them. But as soon the British left India, trivial issue began to raise their ugly heads. Every state turned to itself and tried to look to the interest of its own. New slogans were raised and the spirit of fellow feeling and co-operation was substituted by forces that began to play and interplay. The result was that within a very short time after independence the different regions began to show off their supremacy over others. The disruptive problems of linguist created series cleavage between the two sections of the people of one state. The shameful happenings in Assam over Bengali, Assam controversy and the illegal demand of Khalistan by Akali proved beyond doubt that we have not been able to realize the very fundamental ideal of national integration. The division of the Punjab over the language issue to a large extent impaired the national unity. A part from this the caste rivalries assumed a dreadful proportions.
  • 40. Though today India is a free country, yet that spirit of unity appears to have evaporated which had made people think that they are one family and one nation. The crying need of the hour is national integration for a developing country like India. We Indians cannot afford to be parochial, narrow-minded, provincial and communal because we have a great mission to accomplish. Keeping our feet firmly on the ground we should bring about the integration of the Indian people. Political integration has already taken place, but emotional integration is a must for national integration. Political freedom has brought in its wake new forces of fanaticism which threaten to destroy the noble concept of one country and one people. Attachment to caste and community is given priority over devotion to the motherland. Regionalism is raising its ugly head. There are several obstacles in the way of national integration of our country. The most formidable obstacles are linguism, communalism and regionalism. India is a multi-lingual country. The language controversy started with Hindi being given the place of official language of India. In South India people revolted against this and demanded secession from India. The constitution has been amended to meet the demand of these people. In the Indian Union the states have been organized on the linguistic basis. The question of language is a sensitive one. People get very easily provoked over this issue. The linguistic fanaticism has got to be fought with love, understanding and accommodation. Communalism is an another obstacle. There have been communal riots in the country before and even after the partition. This is a poison deeply rooted in our polity. India cannot succeed in forging any unity, if communalism continues. Casteism is an offshoot of communalism which is equally dangerous to national integration. Another fissiparous tendency is regionalism. Aggressive regionalism has gravely underminded the feeling that the whole of India is the home land of her inhabitants. Regionalism creates parochial outlook and narrow mindedness.
  • 41. It is beyond doubt that the threats of disintegration are staring us in the face. If we Indian keep on remaining disunited in the name of religion, community or language, the country will go to dogs. If we do not sink petty differences our freedom is in peril. Divisions on the basis of language or community will have serious repercussions. We must realize that we have the strong bond of same cultural heritage and must not let ourselves fall apart and disintegrate. We must show to the world that a country with as old a tradition as ours can holds back personal differences for the sake of higher interest of the country. Toleration, co- operation and feeling of brotherhood should guide us in maintaining the national unity of our country. Let us echo what Pandit Nehru said, “There is no division between North and South, East and West of India. There is only one India of which all us are inheritors, it belongs to all of us.”
  • 42. Speech writing 2. You have lately read the account of many cases of violent behavior by school children. Some instances have been quite injurious and harmful to the victims. You are shocked by these accounts and decide to share your views with your schoolmates. Prepare a speech for the morning assembly on the topic ‘Growing violence in children: Causes and cures’. Ans- Honorable principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, today I am standing before you to share my views on the growing violence among children these days, which is proving to be rather detrimental to the children’s progress. Lack of an appropriate environment and good parental care, and pressure of peers are some of the factors that are responsible for giving rise to negative emotions in children. Feelings of neglect and immense pressure cause anger and dissatisfaction in these youngsters. The growing exposure to crime films and thrillers too raises the levels of aggression in them. Moreover, the rush of consumerism has aroused a child’s desire to possess whatever he sees in the advertisements on the television. And in case of non-fulfillment of these desires and wants, there is cause for resentment and frustration. Television shows like WWF and violent scenes in movies etc. lead the innocent children to imitate them. The negative characters in movies become their role models whom they want to ape in order to appear ‘cool’.
  • 43. Parents, teachers and social reformers should inculcate the right values in children through persuasion and instruction. Being the torch-beaness of the future, children need to be guided well and shown the correct path in life. Let us hope for a better future with the children of today becoming sensible and sensitive citizens of tomorrow. Thank you.
  • 44. 2. Write a speech in about 150–200 words on ‘Environmental Pollution’, which you have to deliver during the morning assembly in your school. Ans- Respected principal and teachers and my dear friends, Today I am standing before you to speak on the topic ‘Environmental Pollution’, which is a serious problem that the whole world is facing today. The tremendous increase in population is the root cause of all kinds of pollution. More people on this earth means more waste material being created. Another factor is the advancement in science and technology. It has made our lives very comfortable but has also given rise to a variety of problems that are harming the environment. 3 Pollution comes in various forms. Air pollution is caused by the smoke from factories, the exhaust fumes from vehicles and the burning of garbage containing chemical materials. Water pollution is caused when toxic waste materials are disposed off into seas and rivers. Soil pollution is again the result of incorrect methods of waste disposal. Radioactive waves from electronic objects and nonbiodegradable material like plastics also contaminate the air and the soil.
  • 45. With modernization, we have reached a stage where the enormous noise caused by industrial and transport activities has become a health hazard. Even though it may not be possible for mankind to eliminate environmental pollution totally, the hazards can be minimized by adopting alternate methods and following certain rules. We must remember that by protecting the environment, we are protecting ourselves. Thank you.
  • 46. 3. Are you bewildered by the speech assignment you’ve recently received? Don’t worry, even if you have no idea about what to write in your speech, we can help you find your motivation and a perfect topic. Check out this sample inspirational speech about setting your goals in life and dreaming big. Ans- Honorable principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, today I am standing before you to share my views. The main goal of this speech is to give you perspective on the other way of thinking and seeing the world, and inspire you to find your own values to live by. I have an important question for you, and I bet you have dedicated your fair share of thought to it throughout the course of your lives – which way of thinking is better, dreaming big or being satisfied with small things? Since I held the first belief my whole life, I believe I am qualified enough to talk about why it can be even more harmful than being unambitious. My whole life I thought I was gonna be huge. Not just your typical A-student type huge, but world-famous huge. I probably had some predisposition to think so, because I was a fairly talented kid and did really well at school, constantly scoring at the top of the class. Over time, however, my motivation turned into something unhealthy. I started to believe that I was entitled to success, and I grew more and more frustrated as I faced the real world. Well, the truth is I didn’t face it a lot until going to university and leaving my hometown, where I had lived in a safe bubble believing that success in the big city is waiting for me to come. The first ominous sign came when I didn’t get a perfect score at the entrance exams. I still scored really well – 195 out of 200, and got into the
  • 47. university, but I wasn’t the first one anymore. Which seems pretty logical now – there were thousands and thousands of kids applying to the same university – but back then I felt that I was missing something. I couldn’t enjoy my triumph because I didn’t get that perfect score. The pitfall, however, came almost three years later when I first got a B on a history exam, a subject I absolutely hated. Then I started to feel like a failure. Now you are probably wondering, “What does it have to do with dreaming big?” Here’s my answer: I always dreamed big, and this made me overlook tiny successes and feel entitled for admiration and victory. I believe you can guess what happened next. I grew more and more frustrated, as I realized you had to work, and most often, work hard, to achieve what you wanted. You even had to withstand failure and rejection – something I wasn’t used to dealing with at all. The only opinion I had about failures is that they diminished my previous accomplishments and my value as a person, and that successful people never fail and never have to deal with the pain of rejection. Dreaming big is good, as it helps a person set far- reaching goals and do bold things. But it can only work if a person has healthy relationships with failure, tryouts and taking tiny steps. The success that seemingly comes overnight takes years to achieve, but no one wants to mention those years – they are a boring time of exhausting, plain and continuous hard work. Sounds bad enough for a movie, right? Don’t teach anyone just to dream big – teach them to dream big while taking small steps. This is always better than staying in one place and wishing to be teleported to the valley of success. Thank you!
  • 48. 4. Importance of Education Speech. Good morning to the Excellences, my respected teachers and my dear friends. Ans- A Real Hero Comes Back The moment Hari stepped down from the train he was greeted at the platform by the people of his small town. They had gathered there with garlands and a band, because a real patriot, retired army man regardless his salary, family and his own life had appeared back after one and half year. It started long back that China attacked India and through a newspaper Hari came to know that there was a great shortage of manpower in the Indian Army. At the very moment he determined to devote himself for the sake of the country by fulfilling the demand of manpower. Though the marriage function of his daughter was going on, he did not care as he was regardless of everything in front of his country. As expected India won over China and by a collective effort of real heroes like Hari. India once more touched the horizon success and the dawn of relief was ours. People also understood that if we are breathing in a free country it is because of the sacrifice and the devotion of people like Hari. It was raining but people enjoyed it with a real hero and considered the rain a pious sign.

He appeared to be a little, sweet boy who had a small bag on his shoulder. She noticed a book in his bag. Ruhi was eager to know where the child lived. There was still more than an hour left for her train to arrive. So, she got up and started following him. The boy moved out of the station and entered a slum nearby. He got into a house which appeared to be a very dirty and unhygienic place. There were other child beggars in the house who were in the age group of 5 — 12 years. They were thin and weak. They had money but nothing to eat. Just then, a burly man entered the house. The children became quiet. He asked them for the money that they had collected by begging. The poor children handed all the money they had to him. Ruhi understood that it was a racket of child beggars. She felt pity for those small children. She decided to inform the police. The police and an NGO 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan' soon reached the place. The man was perplexed on seeing the police. The police arrested him and the children were sent under the protection of the NGO from where they would be sent to their homes. Ruhi felt relieved and was appreciated by everyone. She was later rewarded by the government for her effort in rescuing the children.

Answer- A Spaceship on Earth Last Sunday, I was watching TV. Suddenly I heard people shouting outside. It was about 10:30 p.m. As I opened my door, bright lights from outside dazzled my eyes. I went outside towards the place where a large crowd had gathered outside our colony park. There was a huge spaceship that had landed in the park. It had a thousand lights blinking and from the windows, one could see few strange figures peeping out. I was surprised to see the aliens. Meanwhile, the police had also reached the park. People were shouting and asking the police to take the aliens out of the ship. They were very excited to see them. By this time, few scientists and researchers had also reached the spot. They had brought some instruments along with them. As they started moving towards the spaceship, the sirens that were installed in it started blowing. We could notice the strange figures hurriedly moving inside the spaceship. Then, as if understanding the intentions of the scientists that they probably wanted to capture them, they started blowing green-colored dust from their spaceship. Its wheels started moving like a blower and the spaceship started moving upwards. The scientists rushed out of the park. People tried to click pictures of the spaceship but their cameras showed only a black screen. The spaceship safely moved out of the hands of the humans who would have otherwise captured the aliens and started a study on them. I thanked God for saving their lives from the clutches of the inhuman humans.
