2. • After nearly 20 years in intelligence and cryptography positions for the
United States Navy, Jannene Olson now concentrates on parenting
and volunteering in her local community in California.
• Recently, she has been using her years of military experience to
support the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) on a volunteer basis.
• Founded in 1958, the NSCC is a military-endorsed program for young
people ages 13-17. The goal of the program is to develop leadership
skills through practical naval training.
3. To start, Cadet Corps participants go through a recruit training
process, which is a version of military boot camp adjusted to meet
the needs of young cadets.
Recruit training includes physical fitness training as well as lessons
in seamanship and naval history.
After cadets have completed the initial training process, they may
participate in advanced training in various fields.
All training is administered either by active military personnel,
reserve personnel, or by NSCC volunteers like Jannene Olson.
