The Australia Pacific LNG Project is a $24.7 Billion heavy industrial coal seam gas (CSG) to
liquefied natural gas (LNG) project delivering a cleaner, greener sustainable energy
source. This is the biggest of the 3 projects on Curtis Island being constructed by Bechtel.
Summary of skills attained
• Testing and commissioning of Gas Turbine Generators
• Testing and commissioning of all Substations and MCC’s 690v/400v.
• Testing and commissioning of HV Switchgear and Transformers 33Kv, 11Kv, 6.6Kv

Throughout the duration of my employment, I have worked with a team on all the
electrical commissioning and start up activities within the APLNG Plant. This consisted of all
the Substations MCC’s, and HV Switchgear. All Seven, 11-Megawatt Gas Turbine
Generators. The 33Kv/ 11Kv Transformers. Acid Gas Incinerators. Analyser Huts, Fire Water,
Lights and Power Circuits. I also became a Permit Requestor and Isolation Officer. I had to
work in HA’s and also do detailed inspections. I often worked closely with vendors and the
client Conoco Phillips.

Project: Hay Point Coal Ship Terminal Expansion (HPX3), Mackay
Construction Electrician
(FIFO)
The Hay Point Coal Terminal is the third expansion there for BHP Billiton and Mitsubishi
Alliance.
The HPX3 project is a $500 million heavy industrial project that has increased the Port’s
capacity from 44 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 55 mtpa. In addition to a new berth
and ship loader, the project has involved replacing the existing jetty, trestle conveyors and
surge bins.
Summary of skills attained
• Sound ability to identify, label and install all electrical cables HV/LV/FIBRE/data in
ladder/tray using winch, pulleys, rollers block and tackle, separation and radio
communication
• Excellent ability at terminating and glanding all types of cables in a heavy
industrial area
• Excellent ability to design and fabricate all brackets and uni strut needed to
structurally secure cables and tray
• Excellent ability at the installation of cable ladder and tray using splicers, setting

During my time with Downer I was a FIFO on a 4/1 roster. I worked great with a team of
electricians. We covered most parts of the electrical construction process and because I
was working extremely close with other trades, it taught me excellent positive
communication skills. Being a grid mesh ship terminal, 30 meters above sea level and many
floors below, dropped objects was a top priority along with the safety of the environment
namely “the great barrier reef’. I was also trained in Mates in Construction.
