• It is a chronic , metabolic disease characterized by elevated
levels of blood glucose , which leads over time to serious
damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes ,kidney & nerve
• It is of two type 1- diabetes insipidus

7. HOW DOES IT WORK
It is the first new drug in a new class( dual glucose dependent
insulinotropic polypeptide & glucagon like peptide 1 ) of diabetes
medication
When we eat incretins stimulates the secretion of insulin from the
pancreas of beta cell
GLP-1 increase the release of insulin from pancreas & it also reduce
level of glucagon ( glucagon- hormone that inc the blood sugar level)
Another role of GLP-1 is inc the number & volume of beta cell in the
pancrease . It also promotes a feeling of fullness by delaying stomach
emptying & controlling appetite in the brain

8. GIP inc insulin release . It also improves beta cell production & decrease beta
cell destruction
Additionally GIP reduces fat accumulation inc bone formation (osteoblast) &
reduce acid secreation in the stomach.
People with T-2 diabetes do not respond as strongly to incretin hormones
as other people . Tirzepatide addresses this deficit by activating the GLP-1 &
GIP receptor in the body.
They both have some what separate activities but they have greater activity
in combination causing insulin secreation improving glucose tolerence &
decreasing body weight

9. HOW EFFECTIVE IS IT
 Participants who received trizepatide achieved better A1c (blood sugar test
normal range below 5.7%) reduction & weight loss than those who received
insulin glargine
 Trizepatide is Significantly greater reduction A1c as compared to metformin +
SGLT2 inh (dapagliflozine , canagliflozin)
 In a clinical trial researcher found tirzeptide to be effective in adults with diabetes
that is inadequatly controlled by diet & exercise intervention alone
 Study showed that participant taking tirzepatide had significantly greater
reduction in A1c as measure of blood sugar than placebo (study- one of three
tirzepatide dosages 5mg, 10mg,15mg or a placebo inj under the skin once
weakly for 40 weak)
