requirements and process

to obtain the SW T/T and T/T logo information
Prepare EPA/SmartWay staff to launch Dealer Training
Program
• Increase visibility of the SmartWay logo along with
suggesting improvements on the SmartWay website
and creating a training manual for dealers and partners.
• Work to get more participating partners, as well as
supply the partners with tools for success.
• By helping bring more partners on, I will help reduce
the amount of freight emissions, and gas consumption.
• A reduction in emissions can improve the air quality,
which can improve the health of the population, create
a cleaner environment, and potentially decrease some
of the impacts of climate change. All of those things are
main goals of the EPA.
1. Craft enticing language for SmartWay home website page,
making promotion of purchasing SmartWay Designated Tractors
and Trailers attractive to dealers, prospective partners and
existing SmartWay partners, as well.
2. Create attractive graphics to get dealers and prospective/
SmartWay carriers’ attention.
3. Create an easy website path to necessary logo documentation.
4. Study and improve logo acquisition process with the goal of
drafting a plan for our contractors to execute automation of the
Tractor/Trailer logo process.
5. Develop SmartWay
Tractor/Trailer training manuals
for dealers and partners.
6. Develop a webpage on the
SmartWay site for easy access
to tractor and trailer logo process
7. Make a pdf and animated PowerPoint that displays the steps of
obtaining the SmartWay logo..
During my time at SmartWay I created:
• Tractor and Trailer Logo Usage Instructional
video and pdf. -This was posted on the US
and Canada Partner Portal for 3,000+
SmartWay Partners to view.
• A Dealer Training PowerPoint, outlining the
benefits of selling EPA Designated
SmartWay Products.-This will be sent to
various dealerships to be used to train them
on the SmartWay Program
• A webpage and web banner for the website
www.epa.gov/smartway, simplifying the
tractor and trailer logo acquisition process.
• I also help make website corrections and
offered other recommendation.
Working at the EPA was a very valuable experience.
As a result of my experience I have:
• Learned how to make instructional
presentations and videos
• Learn how to make training programs
• Understand the under workings of a governmental agency
• Learned how to create webpages
• Learned how the EPA is addressing climate change, and
public health from the industry

Launched in 2004, the
SmartWay® Program is a public-
private initiative between the
EPA, large and small trucking
companies, rail carriers, logistics
companies, commercial
manufacturers, retailers, and
other federal and state agencies.
Its purpose is to improve fuel
efficiency and the environmental
performance (reduction of both
greenhouse gas emissions and
air pollution) of goods
movement in supply chains.
The National Vehicle and Fuel
emissions laboratory does
emission testing on various
engines ranging from small
engines (such as lawnmowers to
large heavy duty engines. The
facility has a wide variety of
dynamometer and analytical
testing and engineering services.
In the office building there various
divisions, including the
Transportation Climate Division,
which is part of the Office of Air
and Radiation Office of
Transportation and Air Quality,
where SmartWay is located
